Try to find lost family.my grandfather came to bali with his uncle about 70years ago.his clan is chan but we don't know his complete name.his uncle back to china and my grandfather married balinese woman named ketut singkreg and had 14 children.now we are try to fine our family in china.the latest news that one of the son of my grandfather's uncle is a doctor in hongkong because he had sent our family in bali before lost contact.is there somebody know about my family?

China is a huge place with lots of people, even 70 years ago. The chance of someone recognizing your ancestors local phonetically spelled name is nil.

Helen,

Thank you for the kind words. The wiki is long on tooth and needs rewriting. Most of the information originated from past contributions by people like you, Henry, laohaoqiao, and numerous others. Please modify and change the information to improve accuracy, aid readability, or for better clarification to newbies.

I initiated the 'How to Start wiki' when I realized the similarity of advice given to newbies. This particular article is meant as a time saver when replying to the numerous beginning request-for-information. I feel that those new genealogist truly interested in doing their own research in their family history will read the contents, apply the steps outlined, and follow the resources enumerated. Afterwards, when they run into genealogical obstacles, they post their newer more detailed questions. We therefore have a similar vocabulary with which we all use to advance their research.

So again, please add or modify the wiki.

Doug,

Mitrophan Nelson Chin has done a great job recently in taking some photos of Chin tombstones at Mt Hope Cemetery in Boston and had forwarded them to share with me. Altogether it came to about more than 80 photos. He has agreed that I could share them with others. If I should just post them in this Forum the thread eventually would move out of the initial viewing range. I think it would also be useful if you can post them in Wiki that you are so actively in expanding.

Philip,

I would recommend that Mr Chin post his photos on Find A Grave^click . He has the option of translating the inscriptions and posting the information both in Chinese and English. That would make it searchable. Then he could post a mash-up of the information on the Wiki with URL's for each Find A Grave link.

If a researcher finds an ancestor in the Wiki (because of the Chinese Genealogy interest) or is searching Find A Grave themselves, they are more likely to find the appropriate graveside. Also, owners of the site can add information. Finally, there is data on where to find the gravestone. I hate to see the work he has done wasted or lost to researchers.
