From this article 碑头村 seems located at 派谭镇 which = northern Zengcheng

Hi Geoff, Sorry for the delayed response, I was away on a short vacation. According to tyuti1668 - see the following map: mysite.verizon.net/vzepzaui/Bei Tou Area.jpg[/img] The following map for Bei Tou village is my guess for the location of the village. the first Chinese character in the name on the map is not the same as the first character [ 碑 ] in the name provided by tyuti1668. I checked and it is not the simplified version. If one of our Chinese literate members can clarify - this would help. Henry mysite.verizon.net/vzepzaui/Bei Tou.jpg[/img]

I'm assuming William Hoong Guy (Chong ) and Ethel Maude Hoong Guy (Chong) were husband and wife. Then there may be an error in the name of the village on the headstone of William Hoong Guy, Ethel's is correct. The village name should've been 陂頭村 with the 鍾 Chong (Zhong in mandarin) family clan, in fact the village is also known as 鍾陂頭村 . Both 陂 and 碑 are pronounced as bei in Cantonese.
Whoever wrote the Chinese village name for William was unsure how village name should be written, judging how the word Tou was written.
It's somewhat odd that even though Ethel passed away earlier, her headstone looks newer. Was it installed later or perhaps the original was replaced?

Geoff,
Please see the updated map showing Bei Tou Village Number 5, the traditional character for "Tou" has been replaced by the simplified character.

This post has been modified and the user banned for spamInteresting thread. I'm learning Mandarin right now so it's interesting for me to read gravestones. Headstones and monuments are another source of fascination for me, and XXXXXXXX has a great selection and has been in business since the 20's. That's something for genealogy and cemetery buffs to consider.

Hi Geoff, William Hoong Guy and Ethel Maude were my grandfathers parents. I have enjoyed reading the replies to your question. I was unable to see the map as the link no longer existed, however, I will google. I have just started investigating my family history and would be very interested on any other information you may have on the guy family. My grandfather was Stanley Guy. Thanks in advance. Ps his brother Len is still alive and will be turning 100 in May
