I believe H Y Louie of London Drugs fame died and buried in his native Du Tou in Chungshan. I checked it with the Louie elders here in Sydney.
On the first of my two trips to China last year, I toured some of the home towns and villages of overseas Chinese from the Pearl River Delta, Du Tou was high on my list. I only made a rushed visit on the back of a motorcycle.

Interesting! I only post what I saw while at the cemetery. Could you check with your friend whom is buried in this plot at Ocean View in the Garden section? This should be a very interesting during the upcoming tour.

Just found an article on Brand Louie written by Ken MacQueen, Maclean's, 3/25/2002, Vol. 115 Issue 12, p50, 3p,.
"It was 1934 and, in failing health, he'd returned for the first time in 38 years to his birthplace in south China's Pearl River Delta. His trip meant leaving his struggling Chinatown wholesale grocery in the hands of the eldest sons among his 11 Canadian-born children. "
This plot may have been a memorial in Vancouver so his family can pay respect to him every Spring?

Yes, I do think it is a memorial to this great pioneer. HY Louie is well remembered by the older Louie clan members from Du Tou in Sydney, Australia. Du Tou can be very proud of this famous son.
There is something about the memorial plaque: the Chinese characters are written from left to right, which is the old traditional way, but not top to bottom. It is a little puzzling.
Here something for tyuti1668. On your next visit to Chungshan, can you please set aside a little time and locate HY Louie's grave? Digital images of the tombstone and environs would be very welcomed to satisfy our curiosity.

My guess would be that the simple display on the memorial plaque represents the humble side of HY Louie.
I am curious if his children follow the generation naming scheme.

A good article on Du Tou or Doo Tao, trust you to find the relevant links on the net. Nice work.
No, I don't know who Johnson Louie is. I'll check with King Fong next time we meet or chat on the phone.
Mark this in your diary: October 4 marks the 30th. anniversary of our re-born Chungshan Society and the opening of the renovated and expanded small club house. The event will be celebrated right through the day with guests from our home county.
Highlight will be a gala dinner at The Marigold to mark the 100th anniversary of the Xinhai Revolution 辛亥革命. The Revolution is significant to everyone of Chinese descent. It is extra special for us because it was led by our most famous son Dr. Sun Yat-sen. Tickets are at $60 /person. I've reserved two tickets through King Fong. Please join us, come with a mate, your mother, or your sibling. I'll take the day off work to join in the festivities.

We will go to the cemetery in Auckland, on 9 October. This year will be special - the first time all of my own family will be together in 4 years. As the years go by, and the children are scattered like the wind, each time we have a family gathering will be a precious time.

Hi Joe - how are you? any more trips planned for China soon? Yes, family portraits will be coming out our ears soon. There will be many of the family invited to a BBQ, and lots of talking and reminising will be done. There is a new generation of children now, and my Children are now one above them.
