Ah Gin, Thanks for the pointers. I'll try everything you suggested. I don't even have a rabbit year antenna, just a cable plugged into the set. It works well on analogue signal. I am going to shop for a new antenna soon. I get excellent coverage on SBS digital, and nothing else. The two networks that I care for are the ABC and SBS. I really missed ABC's nature series with David Attenborough, current affair and other docos. I was overjoyed when all networks came on strong. Then, the next day only SBS digital still working. I'll get to the bottom of it.
Yes, what a difference 24 hours can make to the weather. We in Sydney had a scorcher yesterday, but a cool change came late this afternoon. I think our fellow members in Nth. America are envious of us.

Hi Henry, I just signed on to the forum 'cause the winter up here is a little boring at this time of year. We get a little shutin. The snow is all piled up waiting for the next snow fall and so I thought I should see what activity is out there. This thread is kind of fun especially the definition of a Chinese. You know my background so I must say that Of the 88 characteristics I am certain I can claim at least 70 of them. I see that you have just returned from Columbia and was welcomed home with a little skiff of snow. I guess it didn't last long. Welcome back and I wish you and your family a healthy and prosperous 2010. I will wait for Feb 14 to wish all in the forum a Happy New Year. Thanks for the Youtube reference I am certain my chinese freinds and clan will enjoy it . geeweilum

Hi Geeweilum,
Many of us have more of the 88 characteristics than we care to say.
We spent half our time in Chinauta, which is tropical and where my wife's parents have a place with a swimming pool and many amenities. It was so nice.
Wishing you a very Happy New Year !

Geoff,
Thanks for your interest. I am going to tell the world from the roof top my HDTV is working brilliantly. A friend re-tuned it and put in a humble rabbit ear antenna, and Bob's your uncle. Only blemish is when the train goes pass, my ABC signal breaks up.
Hard to believe I bought my first new TV set in my early 60s. I have yet to own a new car, in fact I don't even have a car and can't see the need arises to buy one. Another way to look at it is that I am very green, and refuse to let the car rule my life, dictate what I can or can't do. No siree, I don't want to be enslaved to it.

Douglas,
Possible solution to your new tv ABC signal break up...................
as you hear the train approaching or get one of those free timetables, jump out of your comfy sofa & hold the tv as tight as possible.
Anyone have any other suggestions or a technical solution?

Outdoor antenna + Booster works best BUT rabbit ear (w/o Booster) can recieve which means the signal isn't that bad. DiY built a "hi-gain" indoor unit (the signal is in UHF & need calculation to suit ur case/ There's also tons Diy guide in web. (Pls search "hdtv" "antenna" "diy" @ Google ) DTV Forum Australia may had an answer.

Douglas.
Aiya, can't accept this title lah -- me no techie -- left that world 100 years ago, now into things I know even less -- Chinese Heritage etc. But thanks for that generous title.
Back to the real world: I my cousin in Modern California recalls that her mother refers to the garage remote control, and in fact any remote control as "Click Clack".
"I will GIVE you a electric speech" to mean I will call you on the phone (usually to mean mobile phone.
"Fire Vehicle" is of course the railway.
More from others?
Regards, Ah Gin

You are chinese if......
you say "Aiya"....... thanks for reminding me ahgin or did I miss it in the 88?
Douglas, I can't accept the title of "resident standup comic". I was just trying to cheer myself up (and you) & also, I saw it on a US sitcom, so it must be true.
