Found my uncle's father's name, WONG Sing, but am not sure of the village. It's either Ping Lok or Wing Lok. In the Village dB, I found both villages in the same subheung of Shek Pan Hom Heung which is in the Wing Hing Heung of Area 1 in Toishan. Just wondering if these villages are close together in distance and whether this is enough information to try and find zupu/jiapu for this family. (I also have uncle's name in Chinese characters). Hi Chak, Please take a look at this map: mysite.verizon.net/vzepzaui/Wing Lok.jpg[/img] It only shows Wing Lock village - I have annotated it with both the "traditional / simplified" Chinese characters. If you look at the bar scale that indicates a 1 kilometer ( .6 mile ) distance, the other village of Ping Lok is probably within the 2 km radius that comprises the 石板潭鄉 Shek Pan Hom heung area. If you are seeking your family/clan genealogy book, there has been a recent and very large Wong clan genealogy book published for the Taishan area. The Wong lineage for several Wong Forum members have been found in this book by my Taishan nephew. This Wong genealogy book is fantastic because if your lineage is in it, it can be traced back to HuangDi, the Yellow Emperor ( 2697 BC - 2597 BC ). If you are interested in having my nephew research your ancestral villages, look for your family lineage, and buying a copy of this Wong genealogy book - please contact me directly at: Tomclan@Gmail.com Henry

Henry - The Wong clan book - is it the Siyip clan only - or would it cover the Zengcheng area as well?

Hi Helen, I believe this is the same large Wong zupu that my nephew found for Ben, moderator for the Wong clan under the Forum thread for Clan progenitors: siyigenealogy.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=clanprogenitor&action=display&thread=861Ben has already identified that Huang Ju Zheng (黄居æ£) was the Wong clan progenitor for Guangdong province and this large Wong genealogy book identifies the 110 generations back up to HuangDi, the Yellow Emperor ( 2697 BC - 2597 BC ). In this regard, if the Wong clan branches in Zengcheng are linked up to Huang Ju Zheng (黄居æ£), then you can also get the additional 110 generations to HuangDi. Yes, I believe this Wong zupu is specifically applicable to Wong branches in the SiYi region, however, I believe it would probably show some of the Wong clan descendants of Huang Ju Zheng (黄居æ£) that settled in Zengcheng - because the Wong clan branches that settled in the SiYi region and the Zengcheng region are descendants of Huang Ju Zheng (黄居æ£). This Wong clan zupu costs $40 USD and the shipping cost to the US is $30 USD. Henry

Thank you, Henry, for all the time, suggestions and information you've given us. I am still on the "hunt" for my own grandparents' villages but, in the process, I think I have enough information on my cousin's father and grandfather to have some research done overseas. Do you agree? If so, I will contact my cousin and see if they wish to pursue this in the near future and will let you know by email. I have her grandfather's name and village - thanks to Ah Gin's translating, we know it is Ping Lok vs Wing Lok. Also have her father's name - and he is from the same village. Her two brothers whose names I've attached were both born in the US. Attachments:

Chak,
Bottom line contains two words, reading from right to left: 靈柩
靈, pronounced in Cantonese, “ling” means spirit world 柩, pronounced in Cantonese, “gau” means coffin which contains corpse

Ah Gin, Thank you for my cousins' Chinese names. Do you have a Chinese keyboard that does that? Can you give type my uncle's name too? He's Shew Hong Wong - gravestone image is posted above, right before the one with his sons' names. Thanks!!!

According to my failing eyesight, the Chinese characters for “Shew Hong Wong”, reading from right to left of the headstone is 黃兆棠 Again I can hear the word “Hong” pronounced in Hoisanwa. The Cantonese pronunciation is “Tong”. So no doubt that when your uncle was growing up, at home, they speak Hoisanwa. I use “Global Penpower” tablet to input Chinese, as I find it hard to battle with a keyboard to input Chinese. Sometime I do a cut & paste from a variety of web site, eg nciku. Somewhere on this Forum, there had been discussions on a number of ways of handling Chinese characters. I am sure one of our members will remind us of the Thread. Meanwhile, if you are composing your family history using MSWords and if you do require the collection of Chinese names you already discovered, by all means drop me a Private Message and I will send you the Chinese words. Regards, Ah Gin

Your eyes see the same thing mine do Ah Gin. I think you're right about my uncle's home language though. I checked out the nciku website - lots of fun. Is that the link you are recommending, Doug? Again, thank you for your help and suggestions!
