Hi I was hoping to visit my father's ancestral village on my upcoming trip to HK, but have not idea how to get there. I have included a link to the name of the village in Chinese below. It is called Shan Pui (Chan) village in Toi San. I would really appreciate it if someone could tell me detailed instructions eg what number bus, to take to get there from Hong Kong. Also is it possible to visit it on a day trip from HK or is it too far. www.c-c-c.org/villagedb/display.cgi?level=Village&id=2218

Official Address in China Post db is 广东省江门市台山市 广海镇城北村委会山背村/山背新村 529231 Google Maps (B/C) it's easy from HK 2 TS's city porper "台城" (just search old posts) but "the village" is far away (another ~45min ride ) / there's also bus (near Macau/ Zhuhai broder) that use the 沿海高速 which saves some time.

Hi, Melbgal! Following up on your question on how to get from Hong Kong to Taishan, I suggest taking a CTS coach bus (China Travel Service) for a novice traveler because the CTS staff have been very helpful to me (my opinion) in assuring that the traveler gets on the right bus and to the right destination especially if one does not speak or understand much Chinese. Depending on when you arrive by plane into Hong Kong airport, you can actually catch the CTS bus at the airport (CTS has a kiosk stand there). If not convenient, then you can catch a CTS bus at the several boarding points in Hong Kong Island or Kowloon. The comfortable air-conditioned bus trip to Taishan should take 3-4 hours. Your large luggages will be stowed in the storage compartment of the bus.....just keep a casual eye on them as the bus makes drop-off stops along the way. Also take note that you will most likely transfer buses at the Bay Port or Huanggang border crossings into China. At the China immigration station you will be required to take all your luggages off the bus and go through immigration before boarding a bus to Taishan. Anyway, here is the CTS website for information on bus schedules and fares: ctsbus.hkcts.com/routes/hk/hk_taishan.html (departing from Hong Kong Island & Kowloon) and ctsbus.hkcts.com/routes/air/air_xinhui.html (departing from Hong Kong airport). Good luck and have a safe and enjoyable trip! Raymond
