Hi all, it is another wet,. miserable morning in HKG. I am leaving tonight after about one month away. Time certainly flies. I hope my daughter could help me upload the photos asap.
Carlos, I also have a simplified family tree for you. Your uncle's daughter wrote down the immediate members for me. If you send me your Peruvian side of the family tree , I can pass on to her, or you can send it to her direct yourself. Your uncle, his family and brothers are very pleased to learn of your interest in tracing them. They were overwhelmed. Only your uncles knew of the family links in Peru, they never talked about it To everyone else, it was a bolt out of the blue. They want to know about you.
I'll probably return to China about the same time next year. If you and your family members have the time to make the trip, I'll be happy to meet you in HKG or China, and guide you to your ancestral village. I can guarantee you a very warm welcome from your uncles and everyone else. Douglas

November was a great month to travel - we had no rain for 3 weeks - but it was poor later in the month. Other times I have been are April and June. All good months as well. Safe travelling Douglaslam.
My daughter is leaving Shanghai tonight, for Sydney. She leaves 8pm China time. Then she will arrive from Sydney to Auckland on Tuesday 11th.

Douglas, Thanks for offering to let us meet with you when next you travel to China (Nov 2013). I am hoping to go in April 2013, but may also want to return in Nov 2013 if all goes well. I'll let my brother, Lew, know of your kind offer too.
I hope you have a very nice flight back home. I'll let you know when my chop arrives.

I'm home this morning, it is a mild summer's day with the city bathing in brilliant sunshine. What a stark contrast to Hong Kong. Just ask tyuti1668 how uninspiring the weather is over there. Let's hope my daughter can find the time to help me upload those photos.
What a party if Fay Chee, Carlos and me travelling together as a group. I already had my leave approved for next year. If there are minor changes, I can get the dates changed, or claim long service leave instead. I'm flexible.
Helen, are you talking about Shangri-la that Lap Chi went to? It is a manufactured tourism attraction. I don't fancy it.

Hi Douglas - Welcome back to this end of the earth. The weather was really bad here today - tornado hit just west of Auckland. 3 deaths so far, and some hospitalised.
Yes - Shangri la looked nice, but totally expensive - I don't blame you for not wanting to go

My apologies to everyone. I am at the mercy of available help to upload and transmit images and files. It causes me much angst, frustration and annoyance. It is a big letdown to people like Fay Chee, Carlos, Doug Joe, mugenpower168, and a few others who are not Forum members.
I am about to take my memory cards and USB stick and seek help elsewhere.

Douglas, No need to apologize. Your gift of pictures is well worth the wait.
What you have already posted without the pictures, is a valuable treasure of memories to us all.

Fay Chee, I am glad the chop did arrive within ten days in spite of the Christmas peak. I thought of getting it done in Taicheng on the morning of our departure. I was prepared to pay the extra for a rush job by an artisan. Shi Cheng, Henry's nephew told me to look for one at the town centre's pedestrian mall. Time was not on our side because it was wet, and we were eager to get home. When we arrived back at Shekkei town, Ming took me to the 'chops" alley where the artisans plied their trade. Lo and behold, they were hard to find. Like most tradition art and craft, the march of progress is their death knell. Only one or two could be found, and the people were not artisans but computer users. instead of a small hammer and chisel, it was laser technology at play. There was no choice. I believe traditional hand crafted ones are still available, such as my own one which was done back in 1973. If you preferred handicraft and a choice of materials, I am sure Shi Cheng can take you to one in April. I chose a font that is understood by all. I am sure you can enhance the colour by your Superior PC skill.
Helen, I am stuck, and that's it. Douglas

Douglas, I stamped the chop on cheap printer paper, then scanned it into .jpg format. The surface of the paper was rough and the red ink did not completely fill in the spaces. I was going to make it perfect using my Adobe Photoshop software, but decided that I liked the imperfections in the imprint.....a true reflection of myself and life in general.
I may get another one when I go to China one day, but this will always be my favorite.
Thanks Douglas. Fay Chee

Good job with the chop douglaslam. Too bad they are doing them with laser. What kind of material being used? My personal preference is ivory and do it the old fashion way. I also like the old seal style fonts better. I wish I had mine done that way, but I didn't know better when it was made.
FayChee, yes, "the imperfections in the imprint" is better. It is meant that way. You are so right with "a true reflection of myself and life in general." You should treasure it.
I have a brochure showing all kinds and styles of chops. It is so fascinating to me.
