I refer to Henry’s invitation to Stephen to serve as the Moderator for a new thread on the Lin/Lim/Lam/Lum (林) Clan: Re: Moderator « Reply #18 on Mar 15, 2010, 12:13am » siyigenealogy.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=clanprogenitor&action=display&thread=839&page=2Stephen is heavily involved with researching his Lim genealogy, organizing the coming national Lim Clan annual dinner, visiting the various Lim clan associations in various towns in Malaysia and presenting them with the scrolls of Lim/Lin lineage charts he compiled and printed. Since Stephen is too busy and as I have the soft copies that he had laboriously researched and compiled, I am (with Stephen’s permission) going the post them in this Forum for the benefit of those interested. The first chart below is from Huang Di to the first generation of Lim/Lin:

Dear Philip,
On behalf of all the members of the Lin/Lim/Lam/Lum clan, and the Si Yi Forum members, I would like to thank Stephen for all his hard work and willingness to share and to you for posting this very valuable information presented in such a wonderful manner !
As one who has had to spend 5 years of research and thousands of dollars to research my own Tan lineage, I wished that someone had done this for the Tan clan. I hope all the people that benefit from this information realize the substantial effort that was made in searching for zupus, linking lineages from these genealogy books and for resolving the discrepancies that always occur when trying to integrate lineages that were compiled thousands of years ago.
I salute your efforts and appreciate your generosity and kindness in sharing.
Henry

My Lim (Lin æž—) surname is from Eng Choon ( 永春 Yong Chun) Province from a place called "Poh Tow" (埔头 Pu Tou). Some people refer to us as Poh Tow Lim (in Hockkien dialect). My Poh Tow Lim progenitor is someone called Zong Bao å®—ä¿. I too am English educated only but learned a little of how to use a dictionary to get the Pin yin to "type" the Chinese character. Am interested to know if there are other Poh Tow Lims out there.

Hi Limst688, Welcome to the Forum From the way you have written the Hockkien pronunciations it would appear you are from my part of the world. Should you be from Malaysia, I understand that there is a Poh Tow Lim Association in Bahau town in Negeri Sembilan. I doubt you will be able to find any Poh Tow Lim in this forum. I have met many with my surname from my ancestral village in China but now in Malaysia; I have yet to meet one in this Forum How many generations back is your progenitor Zong Bao? From what I was given to understand, Poh Tow Lim is descended from one of the 9 brothers (referred to as the 9 Dragons) at Generation 96 counting from Huang Di. The names of the 9 brother are in the image below: From the Yongchun map below, the ancestral locations of yours and mine are shown in the Yongchun map below: Philip

Thank you for the information. I have seen documents showing that we are from one of the 9 dragons and other docs that do NOT show it that way. Zong Bao is the 99th generation counting Lin Jian as 1st. Yes I am from Malaysia in PJ. Ok our Lim ancestry is branch from Lin Yun (6th of the 9 brothers)

My great great grandfather, LIM KUY, came from Amoy, China around the mid- 1800s to the Philippines via Manila and eventually to Zamboanga City in Mindanao. I am so much interested to trace my ancestors from China especially the LIM/LIN family. According ly, LIM KUY was baptised into his sponsor's family name - MADRAZO. to Christianised the name during the Spanish regime in the Philippines.
The Madrazos of Zamboanga and Davao are his direct descendants. I am proud to have Chinese ancestry in my blood.
Thank you.

Hi Landongarci,
Welcome to our Forum.
Are there any Chinese characters inscribed on the gravestone of your gggf, Lim Kuy? If there are, please take a digital photo and post it on our Forum. Generally, the full Chinese name of the person, village, county, and province of birth is recorded on the gravestone.
When you have these Chinese names - then the village chief of your ancestral village can be contacted to find out if you still have blood relatives still living in the village. Most villages in China are occupied by members of a single clan. He may also be able to find a copy of the village genealogy book which would probably contain the name of your gggf, Lim Kuy and then documents your lineage and who your relatives are and their exact relationship to you.

Hello everyone! I am Jordan Lou MADRAZO Yap. I recently came from my grandfather's burial, his name is Edmundo Natividad Madrazo. He is from Zamboanga City and I was interested in researching our lineage. I recall my mother and relatives saying Lolo's father is from China and that story about being baptized into MADRAZO from LIM. I was wondering if there are more Madrazos out there and who our other relatives are. I always thought we only had a small number of relatives, well, known relatives. Can anyone help me trace out our lineage?

...Can anyone help me trace out our lineage? When trying to study genealogy in China, you will need the characters. Romanized name changes only help your genealogy research in your ancestor’s adopted country. Take a look at this Wiki How to Start Your Chinese Family Heritage Researchclick and share with us more results of your research so we can have a dialog. If you want more responses to your question, consider starting a new thread in the more general Chinese Genealogyclicksection. FYI: the Wiki will be going dark soon.

On behalf of my family I would like to thank Stephen Lim for his research into our families genealogy. My branch of the Lims migrated to Malaysia in the late 19th century from Fujian. They currently reside in Sungei Pelek. Our branch of the Lims has a generation poem. If people are interested I will find a copy and post it here. My Grandfather is very interested in genealogy and I'm sure he would be happy to assist Stephen if he is still conducting research in Malaysia.
Once again thank you. My grandfather will be very pleased when I show him these genealogy charts.

Hi,
I am glad to arrive at this forum. currently I am looking for generation name for my upcoming baby boy. However, my father doesn't know what is the next generation name after mine.
My grandpa use (三) "林 三 X", my father use(自) "林 自 X" and mine use (德) "林 德 X". Since I couldn't locate it in the chart as posted above, appreciate if somebody can advice what is the next next "generation name" after mine.
Thanks
