amthingy Try this site if you are a beginner: How to Start Your Chinese Family Heritage Researchclick. Try to use Chinese characters, either as an image or text. see my footer below. Finally, this forum engine has a censorship module which considers the spelling of your surname as spam/pornography. Consider changing your profile display name to bypass this programming thingy!

I hope the following will be easy to read. Alternatively, click on goo.gl/maps/aW6my - directions to location of villages from Kaiping - - - - Kate's map (November 2010) - - - - today's map search

Hi Henry, Does your nephew from Taishan still perform research for overseas Chinese descendants? I'm hoping to find someone in the area that could help me find any ancestral records about them. I've been able to transcribe their names from their tombstones, and recently recognized that their village's name, (one of the four mentioned by Kate), appeared on the tombstone of my grandfather's youngest brother. 廣東 開平 橋頭村 广东 开平 桥头村 - (simplified*) Guangdong, Kaiping, Qiaotou Cun - (pinyin*)
Kiu Tau Cyun - (village name - jyutping*) *included to facilitate searching My Grandfather's name was as follows: 潘文選Born: 24 SEP 1886 Two of his siblings were: 潘初選Born: 11 SEP 1888 潘耀選Born: 10 OCT 1897 Their father's name was: 潘錦泉
Born: 5 JUN 1848 Their grandfather's name, (my Great-Great Grandfather), was known as P O O N Allum (Lum), but I'm not aware of the characters making up his given name, since they didn't appear on his tombstone. I'd also like to share that my P O O N male relatives have started a Y-DNA Project: www.familytreedna.com/groups/allum-poon/aboutSo if richardn23 or anyone else reading this thread happens to be a P O O N / Pan direct male descendant, you may wish to consider participating in this project. Thanks, Matt

Hi mattm,
My Taishan nephew moved to Hong Kong and no longer performs Chinese genealogy research.
I have another person from the university who does excellent research.
Please contact me directly at " Tomclan@Gmail.com " for additional details & discussions regarding your requirements.
Henry
