Agree with Helen that Doug is awesome with the wiki. Thanks to Doug, Helen and Henry.
I'm still struggling to find and understand plugins for the wiki. Very much learning something new everyday.

The Wiki is going to be an awesome site. There's so much stuff here on this one, that one has to try and recall everything or retain some of the information. I'm sorry if I stuff things up a bit on Wiki and pleased that it gets sorted out by someone.
Like the Chinese in NZ 20th Century photos - can this be merged with the New Zealand pages somehow - I also changed the title to New Zealand Chinese Photos - can someone fix that? Thanks

sir, i am chinoy from the philippines and id like to search for my grandmother's ancestry in china. were troubled by not knowing our ancestry coz my grandmother wont usually open up discussions regarding her life when she was in china. as far as i know, my greatgrandfather is from amoy and their family name is tan. i dont know anything else beside that , but id post some pictures, so that it could be of help. i cant understand chinese, i hope someone can give some translation. Hi nel23, Welcome to the Forum. As your ancestry is from Amoy and therefore the spoken Chinese dialect would be Southern Fujian dialect (Minnan dialect), I am making an attempt in the translation with the names of the three siblings given both in Pinyin and in the Southern Fujian dialect (or at least in the way how the Fujian speaking in Malaysia like me would pronounce them). My rendition is as follow I am trying to figure out the two pictures that you have posted. If the writing is from the reverse side of the photograph of your grandfather then your grandfather’s name is Chen Ji Zeng (in Pinyin). If that is so, he must have given his photographs to his three siblings or cousins (elder sister Hui Eng, elder brother Ah Pun and younger brother Eng Tiong). Chen Ji Tian could be his brother or cousin and Lu Hua, the wife. The question is where do you obtain this photograph? Is it sourced in Philippines or from China? If it is from China, it is likely your grandfather was in Philippines and he sent the photo to the three siblings in China. If your grandfather was in China, he could have had sent the photo to the three siblings in Philippines. You said you want to trace your grandmother’s ancestry in China. Does that mean that you already know all about your own Tan ancestry? Unless you know a few of the names (in Chinese characters) of your grandmother’s male relatives, it is not likely you would be able to do so. Philip Tan
