I cannot find in the database under surname Louie for the village name of Hunwei in Dajiangzhen. Would anyone know more about this village? Thank you.

Dear Colleagues,
The original Village Database has been down since at least May 2012 - so, it seems that the Chinese Cultural Center is no longer supporting it and has finally shut it down - can anyone confirm this?
Henry

Yes, have not been able to get in for months. Shame they are not maintaining it. Also the www.taishan.com is no longer maintained.

Does anyone know if the Village database is available yet? If there is a need for a sponsor, perhaps the mormon church could do it since it would support their penchant for doing geneology research.

So far there is no indication of the CCC-SFclick to restore the Village Databaseclick. My multiple inqueries had only one response: the Village Database has been replaced by the In-Search-of-Roots Village Databaseclick. As long as CCC-SF possesses the MySQL database, there is nothing we can do. A 'temporary' replacement to the Village Database is the Roots Wiki Village Databaseclick. The only person who answered my multiple emails was . It might help if members of this world wide forum email her to emphasize the importance of the Village Database to the Chinese community. Please help!

You're welcome, FayChee! The Canadian members of my paternal grandmother's side currently spell the last name Szeto, too, but in immigration documents that I saw at NARA, it was spelled phonetically by immigration and court officials and even family members and friends.
Wishing you a Happy New Year! LJeung
