I have been read every post on this specific board multiple times, and am now ready to jump in. I too am a Soo Hoo. I do not read nor write Chinese. I am first generation born in USA. I have found the travels of my great grandfather to the US from China as well as my grandfather, and father. My Great Uncle John told my Uncle a few gems, like where Great Grandfather was born, and where he built the family home. I guess, I would like to put together the individual known links and find some of the missing links, such as my grandfather's cousin whom no one can find. Dad is not forthcoming with information. I do know that when Dad came with the men in the family, they ended up in Globe Arizona for some years before all finally settled in California. I'll pull out the info this weekend and lay it out. Happy New.Year! Irene

Hi Irene,
I can't wait to get started ! I see you are using the Taishanese version of our name.....Since you've read many of the posts, then you know what information is the most critical for finding your family lineage.....
I only have 4 of the 6 Seto Zupu's, so let's hope that your Village is in one of them.
Hope you can upload a photo of your Uncle John's tombstone so that we can see what Village he is from and the Chinese characters.

I am posting this picture for Irene (Beloved8), as she had trouble doing it herself. This is her Grandfather's tombstone.....can anyone help with the translation? I don't think it says what the Village he came from. Generational Poem could be Doo (greatgrandpa), Mee (grandpa), Bing (pa), Dock (hers). Thank you for any insight and comments to get started..............Fay Chee

Irene,
You said you were interested in your grandfather's cousins.......well in one of the documents, Mee Luen said that Shing Ching Soo Hoo was his cousin.....also, if a person is from the same Village, they may call them a 'cousin' or 'uncle' or sibling (if from the same generation). Another person associated with your family and was called a 'cousin', is Mun Chuak Soo Hoo, he is from the same Village. Doo Wing had a cousin named Mun Soon Soo Hoo (aka Mun Fun Soo Hoo), born in 1878, and there is a Mun Chu Soo Hoo born in 1880, from Lunghouli (LoongHueLi).
On one document, it said that Mee Luen used the alias 'Tom Gee Luen'.
Did you want me to try and see if there is anything on the 'Bing' generation? Since it is recent, there may not be much.
You can obtain immigration files on Doo Wing Soo Hoo. Look for the California Chinese Arrival Case File # 35043/018-17.
In 1918, Doo Wing arrived with Mee Hong and Mee Luen on the SS Nanking, and said they were staying with a relative named Mun Chuak Soo Hoo in San Francisco.
Mee Ton and Mee Chew went to Globe Arizona after arriving.
I know there is alot more to find on Ancestry, but it takes time to get through it all.
Hi Jeremy!
Thank you for finding the current Village and name! 龍口里 Lung Hou Lay

That's it! I've seen a few of the facts you listed. Others I did not know. When Grandpa died, I think the brothers (my father and his brothers) did what they could. No one wanted to say where they came from because the shame of their poverty.
