Hi everybody.
We are a Chinese Filipino family, of Cantonese origin, for which we carry one of the unusual family names: “老”. I've been ridiculed before because of this strange surname (compared to my contemporaries). I've managed to ask my uncle, who traced my paternal grandfather (and great-grandmother)'s roots from 南 海 (NanHai) district (in 近佛仙), 沙頭鄉 Town.
My grandfather's name is 老元榜 and my great-grandmother's name is 黃興華. I hope somebody can help me. I would be very greatful.

Boxxers76, The village/address is 广东省 佛山市 南海区 沙头镇 朗星 世老村 528208 Guangdong Province, Foshan City, Nanhai District, Shatou Township, Langxing, Shilao Cun(Village) 528208 is a surname Lao 老 village. Coordinates are "22.9050, 113.0465" in Google Maps/ Map view. Website (in Chinese) shilaocun.com/ gives history of the Lao clan and of the village. At its peak, village population reached 2000 about a 100 years ago, many left to escape from the Japanese invasion, and the Lao population in the village is currently about 1000. There are many photos of the village on this site. The contact info on the site is not available yet. I don't know if the message feature works or not, maybe worth a try. But don't call 13800138000 or email email@email.com As you have said Lao is not a common surname, chances are this is the only village in Nanhai with the Lao surname. Even in the unlikely event that it isn't, people in the village can direct you to another Lao village in the area.

Hello! I am a Chinese Indonesian family, my father is Cantonese and my mother is Hakka. I have the exact same family name with you. Rather than seeing it as strange, I would say it is unique I know this post was from a long time ago. But I would like to ask whether you found any information about our family name. Thank you so much!
