Hi brother Philip
Great to hear from you!
So near yet so far - for my grandmother Quek (邱) from 海澄縣! So i guess being a female she would not have been registered in the ZUPU. Or pray tell me that I am wrong.
cheers

Hi brother Philip Great to hear from you! So near yet so far - for my grandmother Quek (邱) from 海澄縣! So i guess being a female she would not have been registered in the ZUPU. Or pray tell me that I am wrong. cheers Hi Robertcslim, I would have thought Quek is for the surname Guo (郭). In any case was your grandmother Quek (邱) or her father Quek (邱) (your great grandfather through her) from Xin Jiang she (新江社), Xin’an Cun (新垵村), San Dou District (三都), Hai Cheng County (海澄縣) or the Quek (邱) ancestry originally from there? The zupu I have from there do contain some information of a person’s daughters as well. For some of the profiles it provide where each daughter is married to only and for some the names of the daughters themselves. So if your grandmother originated from there, you need to know her father’s name in Chinese characters or her brothers’ names in Chinese characters. You also need to know which of the sub-branch descended from; otherwise one would need to search through every of the 1,700 pages. If you know the sub-branch one can then narrow down the search to that sub-branch. And if you know his generation number you narrow down the search even further. The Khoo/Qui (邱) of Sin Aun Village (新垵村) and the Leong San Tong Khoo Kongsi (龍山堂邱公司), Penang has the same progenitor, who is Khoo Chian Eng (Qiū Qiān Róng) (邱迁荣). 迁荣 is the Hào (号) name, the Zì (字) name is Yǒng Zài (永在) while the Hue (讳) name is Míng (明). Zēng Míng (曾明) was adopted by the Qiu “邱”family. His descendants continue to recognize Lóng Shān Zēng (龍山曾) as their ancestor. Zēng Míng (邱明) was the fourth son of Zēng Chāng (曾昌) and the fifth descendent of Zēng Guāng Chuò (曾光绰). The son of Zēng Míng or Qiū Míng (邱明/邱永在/邱迁荣) is Zēng Wǎn Chéng or Qiū Wǎn Chéng (邱晚成). The sub-branches are as follow: 1. 宅房 2. 海長 3. 海二 4. 海三 5. 海四 6. 誨六 7. 門房 8. 嶼房 9. 井房 10. 梧房 11. 松房 12. 田房 13. 岑房 Philip

Hi brother Philip You were right - my grandmother's surname is Quay (郭) So I guess it's back to the search .. Many thanks for your help and support. Perhaps Cannie will have more luck and there's a friendship link between her relative and my grandfather who gave away his eldest daughter to a friend from the same area. They - the friend and my eldest aunt - subsequently returned to China. Robert Hi brother Philip Great to hear from you! So near yet so far - for my grandmother Quek (邱) from 海澄縣! Tonight before i close my eyes to sleep I am wondering whether my five year's journey to find my ancestral home in 福建省 漳州市 龙海市 石码镇 大講書社 is coming to an end or that I have to start searching all over again. Firstly that location was dictated a long long time ago based on information that is most probably more than 100 years. There's a possibility of transcribing error. I also do not have the jia pu. My great grandfather for some unknown reason settled down in a very remote part of Sarawak, East Malaysia. He fathered with a local my grand father. Subsequently he has killed. My grandfather did two short trips and maintaining contact was unknown to us. No letters or picture. So many people have been helping me - @philiptancl amongst them plus many others in the Internet including a lady from Xiamen (lotus root). Many leads went into blind alleys most probably due to the outdated information. Counties, villages merged and split. Places get renamed. LotusSeed did incredibly well to get a credible site and discarded some other possible locations. I contacted @tyuti1668 for help and two days ago he dug up some info from a blogger. Apparently the place as documented by my late father was a nickname. So I continued searching and located the place close to where LotusRoot identified for me couple of years back. I have been trying to contact the blogger to get more precise information while getting a friend's relative who lives in Xiamen to do some groundwork. Once confirmed - hopefully - I will do a trip there before getting the rest of my family over. Also is there a way of getting the headman of 龙海市 南书村 contact so that i can make further query.
So after five years do I dare to say this is it? Only time will tell .. to be continued ... PS the blogger wrote ...

A major update Several months ago I have managed to contact the headman of 龙海市 南书村 Longhai Nanshuchun/ This was through a friend's relative who went all the way from Xiamen based on the information provided by tyuti1668 The headman in turn gave me another contact of a villager who has a relative in Sarawak. philiptancl and his nephew Stephen had helped to locate this person for another family in Sarawak. The villager told me that only 3 person left Nanshuchun for Nanyang. One had no offsprings whilst his relative settled down in Sibu, Sarawak which is near where my grandfather was born. Alas the person has passed away. The day before yesterday I was informed by my contact the the Officer from the Foreign Relations Office was going with her to visit Nanshuchun. Yesterday 30 October 2019 was eventful as I received several emails with attachment of supposedly my ancestral home and another home. The ancestral home was in derelict and ruins whilst the other home was occupied. Both properties are owned by same person who is allegedly my great-grandfather. Therefore the journey has entered a new phase as I will be going over to verify all the information. Once again many thanks to everyone!
