Hi - I write genealogy software, specifically graphics for charting and reporting. Can you tell me if you know of any desktop genealogy software written specifically for the Chinese user by a Chinese company or developer? I'm looking for testers for my charting software, Charting Companion. I have recently added Chinese (Trad. & Simp.) capability. I could use some help with the translation. I would also like some Chinese test data. My software can read GEDCOM. Anyone interested in a free copy can contact me: beta@progenygenealogy.com Thanks, Pierre Clouthier Progeny Genealogy Inc.

Pierre,
I know of no genealogy software written by any Chinese company or developer. That is not to say there aren't any. I do not have the language skills to monitor the Chinese genealogy forums.
That being said, dazupu.net uses the PhpGedView as their software engine. They have written modules in the php programming language to modify features specific for their Chinese audience. PGV has a simplified and traditional language interface. They have a chronology section using major dynasties of the Imperial and Modern eras. They have modified the charts to show them in a landscape mode rather than portrait, as per usual Chinese custom. There is a Chinese calendar to supplement the Gregorian calendar. Of course, most important are the surname first display name and the handling of multiple names.
I am interested in trying your program. The must-have feature for Chinese genealogy will be displaying surname first where appropriate and possibly handling more than one name.
