Hi all
I need to help to track down a village in 台山 Tioshin. This is for a friend's grand father who migrated to Australia, and have returned to home village.
陳鎮華 was born 1880.
广东 台山市 三合镇 (东联村委会) 潢村 永淸里
He migrated to Australia to work in grocery/fruiter, but returned to China in 1948.
He lived in his home village until he died in the 1950s'
We believe his was buried somewhere in the village.
I have been trying any information about the village. Can you help, please.
Andrew

Hi lachinatown Yes, i got a bit further, and found 潢村 Hengcun on Baidu. See attached. 永淸里 is probably too small a village to be on it. You mentioned Sanba - what is this in Chinese ? Andrew

Maybe I got the wrong one for you. I deleted the post now.
You have the correct one since 东联村 Dong lian cun is just below it.

Sometimes more information may not be helpful. andrewAU has already located the village and knows that the Wing Ching (永清) is too small to be located in maps. The two Chinese maps I have don't necessary agree with each other even for larger villages. In this case, the coordinates shown are general in nature and is misleading to the location of Wing Ching (永清).

潢村 in Hanyu Pinyin is pronounced Huangcun not Hengcun which is written 横村 and is different. twoupman houseofchinn.com

Hi All Good news..... found it. The village is 三合镇(town), 潢村(village), 永淸里 (hamlet) is a fairly large one, there are a few hamlets, with clusters of houses, the smaller one is 永淸里 - too small to show on map. So lachinatown is right - 永淸里 is too small mjyee8 is right, because one of the hamlet in the village is Ho Ching (河清里) has a rough coordinate 22 10 30 N, 112 43 00 E twoupman is right the pronunciation/translation of 潢村 is Huangcun Now, I will have never guess 村 is cun, as i am not a Toishan speaker ! The break thru came when I track down the Huangcun 潢村 with 河清里 as coordinate. The Chan descendents from 潢村 has a family tree site. This describes the history of the clan, and picture of the village, with 1 mention of 永淸里. The Chan web site is sites.fitnyc.edu/users/gene_chin/tree/This is very good outcome, as I now have a place, a potential branch of my friends relatives. Attached is an aerial photo of 永淸里 at 22°12'41.89"N 112°43'16.45"E A very big thankyou for all. I would not have gotten this far without your input !! Andrew

Hi andrewAU,
The webmaster for Chan/Chin/Chen website at fitnyc.edu/users/gene_chin/tree/ is my good internet friend, Gene Chin from New York. I came to know him quite some years ago when he want to connect up him ancestral line earlier than the Chan/Chin/Chen (陳) progenitor for Guangdong, Chen Fengtai/Chen Hui. I provided him the connection. I also constructed his ancestral charts up to Huang Di in 4 scrolls for him and go them printed here in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. When Henry and wife were here in Kuala Lumpur early this year he updated the last scroll again and printed it here again. As there were quite number ancestral scrolls to be carried back to US by Henry and his wife, I had to dispatch the scrolls for Gene and for Henry through the post.
If your friend ancestral village is the same as Gene, probably he may share the same zupu as Gene. Probably he would be able to track down your friend’s ancestry. Gene’s wife surname is Yu (余), the same as that of mjyee8. When I was doing the charts for him, he had not been able to locate his wife ancestral records as yet.

Dear Friends, Stephen Lim, who is the nephew of Philip Tan, does a wonderful job of printing these scrolls on very durable material while allowing for a high resolution for the text & images. When you see them in person - you will see how truly nice they are. The Huang village is the ancestral village for Gene Chin and there are Chen village around it, ShuiNan village is the ancestral village for many of the Chen clan in the USA. I am including a map and the grid cells are 1 km squares: Henry

Nice, clear map Henry. Looks like each dot represents a village. Too bad not all of them labeled.

Hi LAChinatown,
This is a topographic map & the "spots" are contour lines around a particular elevation. The shaded areas are villages or hamlets and each of these is identified by traditional Chinese characters and Westernized Cantonese for the names of the villages & hamlets.

Henry,
Stephen Lim did not do the printing himself. He converts those charts, initially done on spreadsheets, into the another format that would come out well for printing. After all the checking had been done, he then sent them to the printer for the actual printing. Henry, I am glad that you like the finished scrolls done for you. One of my friend here printed his scrolls directly from the spreadsheets themselves. The result did not turn out as well. The disadvantage of printing them here in Kuala Lumpur is in sending them to US. The cost for posting could be as costly as that of the printer.

Hi Phillip
Thanks for the lead for Gene Chin for the Chan/Chen/Chin clan in the US. I will pass on the details to the Chan's here in Australia. They are really happy to have found the village.
