Philip Tan Yes it addressed to you This thread i made to trace my ancestry Maybe in page 1 you can read my case i've wrote before Thx before Hi Aremanvin, Though I had seen and glanced at you initial posting, I had not follow your case as there were others already attending to you. From what I seen now, you have all the essential ingredients to go back to your ancestral place in Fujian either to visit you roots and/or seen if you can get your jiapu/zupu, if they still exist. What I can now only contribute is to suggest the way for you in trying to achieve what you want. Below is a pedigree chart that I had designed and constructed sometime ago for one Tan Ting Lie, whose ancestor went to Indonesia earlier than yours. Tan Ting Lie’s father, Tan Tjing Wie, went back to China in 1961. Tan Ting Lie’s sister, Tan Joe Li, had helped others in locating their ancestral place and also to guide them there if there wish to return to the roots. Though I had contacted her on several occasions before, I did not know she is the sister of Tan Ting Lie until someone from Holland told me so when he visited me earlier this year. Tan Joe Li could communicate in Indonesia, Dutch and some English as well. She is either in Fujian or US. She just went back to Fujian. She is now in the process of attending to another case for someone who sought my help and for which I asked for her assistance in locating the ancestral records. If you can forward me your email contact or WhatsApp via a personal message in this Forum, I can forward you her contact. Below is Tan Ting Lie ancestral chart, somewhat edited, and it should be interesting for you to study it as well. Philip Tan

Philip Tan Hello Thank you for your reply So I have to contact Tan Joe Lie to ask for her help so that I can trace my ancestors? I wanted to ask beforehand whether there was a fee for this or did she really help voluntarily? thank you

Hi Aremanvin,
As I understand it,Tan Joe Lie helps in guiding people searching for their ancestral place around Xiamen, Zhangzhou and Quanzhou regions. As far as I know she is doing it on a voluntary basis. I have not used her personally in my own search back in 2007 as I knew the location of my ancestral place and have contact with my second cousin there. However she had guided one of my friends to his ancestral place some years back. Of course you need to pay for the rental of the car and driver (which she could source) and pay for the cost of the meals in guiding him on his search for his ancestral hall. I do not know whether my friend had given her a “Red Packet” or not at the end of the trip. If it was in my case, I would. I suppose when you go to your main ancestral hall, you may need to give some contribution to the main ancestral hall for its upkeep.
When my wife visited her father’s cousin (Yu clan) in China, much as we like a set of the then recently printed zupu, she could only photo-copied a few pages from it. Subsequently we discovered that that Uncle did give a set to my wife’s second cousin (here in Malaysia) who is on the male side of Yu clan. I supposed it could be because my wife is married out, not considered part of the Yu clan and thus not entitled to have the zupu. Subsequently I did know another person from my own clan and whose mother is also from the same Yu clan. He knew of the person in charge of the zupu. When I wanted buy a set, he said they do not sell but would give my wife a set. However he suggested my wife could consider donating something to the ancestral hall instead. If I had to pay for that set of zupu then, I think it would cost around RMB 200. When donating, she could not just donate that amount. She donated RMB 2,000 instead. What I am doing is to give you the contact of Tan Joe Lie so that you can communicate with her directly. However if you want to search really deeply into the history and other areas of your ancestry and need more professional assistance, then I could suggest another source which is based in Beijing. Their set-up could give you a quote for what you are after.
Alternatively you can go there to do your search yourself on your own as you already know the name of your ancestral place. It should be quite cheap for you to fly to Xiamen from Indonesia. I knew of two others from Indonesia who had done just that, one of the two already has his pedigree line all designed and printed out before he visited the ancestral place.
