I Googled the meaning of Feng Wu.........
NAME: Feng-Wu
GENDER: Unisex (Male and Female)
USAGE: Feng-Wu is not a popular first name. It is more often used as a unisex (male and female) name.
People having the name Feng-Wu are in general originating from China.
So, I guess I should go with the saying...'if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck...', and leave the You De Seto obsession alone.
Of the three names we know of, it is possible that one is his 'Milk name', one is the 'Married name', and one is his 'Business/professional' name, etc.

Actually @faychee, you misspelled the Chinese name. It should read 凤梧.

I don't have access to the NZ Archives.
Thanks for finding this,

Yes! Thanks Lachinatown....it is hard to draw the Characters with a mouse... I found out it's easier using my left hand to control the mouse to draw something accidentally. Maybe i'm too used driving manual RHD vehicle Touchscreens on smartphone/tablet... are lots easier These thingy detail.tmall.com/item.htm?id=560023315874 are popular among older folks cuz they simply can't type. Anyway it's easier if knows basic stroke order rules.

Helen, thank you for the link.....I was able to use that website to search! I didn't know I could access N.Z. records other than upgrading on Ancestry.com to the International membership, which would cost an additional $100 to the already $300/year membership fee.
Tyuti, I was wondering if there was a 'Pen-mouse' and if it would be easier to use one to draw the characters than the hand-mouse. I'm going to look on Amazon.com for something like that......thanks! I tried the left-handed technique, but was still difficult to make a straight line.

Thanks Helen! That is another good site for me to use. So, I did find a website that had more explanations about what to look for in the Zupu.... It does not seem that the words "Feng Wu" 凤梧 mean that this person died, so I guess it is just a name and there were no descendants.... Here is what I found for death in the Zupu.....I tried to write them in the translation sites to get a clearer character, but it didn't work.....my hand was not steady enough, so I have to get a tablet with a pen-mouse:

... So, I did find a website that had more explanations about what to look for in the Zupu.... FayCheePlease share the URL about the Zupu! ... Tyuti, I was wondering if there was a 'Pen-mouse'... My goto handwriting input program is a mobile app for both android and iOS called Plecolink .When I use the stroke order as described on tyuti1668 ‘s video, I get more ‘hits’ and suggestions for the correct digitized Chinese character. I prefer to use a computer workstation with a keyboard and mouse for genealogy research and composing documents. I therefore <copy><paste> my successfully digitized Chinese character to a sharing app like Google Keeplink or Evernotelink so I can pick up <select><copy> and use the character to my workstation.

Hi Doug, I can't find it now, I don't think that I saved it to my Favorites. I did multiple searches using 'Death\Died in Zupu', and checked out multiple sites.......this site looked like a power-point presentation and there was an example of a page of a Zupu with a box that said 'died' next to a character, so I took a picture and cropped the character, then tried to write it in MBDG translate, but it didn't come up with anything.

Tonight I checked out several laptops and tablets with Touchscreen technology and think it will be very helpful to use with the Character translation apps....

The family tree is drawn top down from right to left (Traditional Chinese book are read right to left). There is no standardised format for family tree. However typically you can find the following information names (birth, assumed, adult name) birth date (written in dynasty and year) death date (and time) official ranking buried location (often figurative text eg at the belly of green dragon) relocated to (signified split from the clan tree – often to other distance province) surname and home village of wives burial location of the wives indicate if there was no off spring indicate if person dead before age 20 chineseancestor.org/culture/zupu/

Helen, Thanks for the link to that Website. It has a lot of helpful information.
Chakrajuices, There are ebbs and flows in the research world, and this seems like an ebb. We can use this pause to reflect and then we will be ready for the next flow.
What we know so far, is that-
1 Your GF's Chinese (?married) name is most likely 'You Quan/Quan You', born about 1898 +/- 10years, Generational name is 'You'.
2 His Ancestral Village is Dajin/Dai Jun Li/Tai Chun Lay, Chishui/Chek Sui Town, Kaiping.
3 He left China for NZ in 1920 and likely made several trips back (1931, 1936). 4 In China are one Chinese Wife, two sons, and one daughter. 5 Other names: 'Seto De/Dak'-for 10 years working as Chinese Banker and written on back of Immigration Certificate (?Professional name/married name/milk name?), 'Ah Wai'-on all New Zealand documents, death certificate, tombstone 1920 to 1974 (?cousin's name and Business name?). 6 Chinese grandchildren, Generational name is 'Jian'.
7 Henry Seto is also from Dajin Li, his Ancestral home is still there. You Quan/You Dak worked in Henry's Family Gardens "Wing Hing & Co", Panmure, Auckland. 8 Har Seto is married to Henry's brother (sister-in-law) and worked with-friends with your GF, and knew his Chinese name 'Yew-thlen'. Said he was not close relative, but from same Village.
9 The new Situ Zupu has 81 pages covering Dajin Li and I found only one You Quan and one You Dak family tree. Worldwide Szeto Network Hong Kong, Situ Library and Village Head said it was the Quan You Family tree on page 70.
So, onward we go!
Next option, send an email to the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office in Kaiping! Better yet.....go to Dajinli Village and talk to the Village Head!

Fay, Thank you for your encouraging words and hours of help along with everyone else! Yes, I am currently composing an email to the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office in Kaiping and yes it, would be absolutely wonderful to go there in person I'm not sure if number 5 is the correct wording as he worked in a gambling hall/den that I'm not 100% sure was a legal business... But everything else is correct as far as I know. I will certainly keep everyone posted once I hear back from the Office in Kaiping and share the information/help I get from the Office too. Thanks Sophie
