If you are trying to find your ancestors' genealogy records on the family tree books (zupu 族谱), the records may not be kept in the ancestral hall based on the Cultural Revolution of 1960. Usually you will have to access the personal network of elders and family historians. Most overseas family historians, upon arrival to the ancestral village, are able to activate this network once they make personal contact with any of the older residents of the village.
What was your experience at the ancestral village?

Hi Hkyap,
As the crow fly, your ancestral village of Gao Tian Cun (高田村) would be about 20 km from my ancestral town of Hushan Zhen (岵山鎮) even though Gao Tian Cun is in the county of Nan’an (南安) while mine is in the county of Yongchun (永春) while your grandma is from the county of Anxi (安溪); all three counties are next to each other.
You said your grandfather name is Yap Chin Hua and someone had that the Chinese character as葉清花. I would have thought Hua would have been 華/华 which would be more common for the name for a man rather than花 as in flower. If you can provide a photo of the gravestone for your grandfather, the Chinese characters of his name could be ascertained more definitively, maybe his date of birth and likely the date of his death, besides the Chinese characters for the names of his children.
You said your grandfather left China for Klang and that you visited Gao Tian Cun (高田村) on 15 November 2018. On 15 November 2018, I was giving a dinner talk to the Kiwanis Club of Klang on the topic of Chinese Genealogy and how to search for your Chinese ancestry at the Klang Executive Club. Looking at the time of your two postings in this Forum, I guess you are no longer in Malaysia. If you are do give me a call. I shall give my mobile contact through a personal message in this Forum.
You said you found the Ancestral Temple but from that Ancestral Temple, did you manage to obtain or find a copy of the Yap clan (葉氏) Zupu (族譜)? I have a suspicion that you have not when I looked at where Gao Tian Cun (高田村) is located. I am basing I disagreeessment from my own case. My ancestral house (where we house our own ancestral tablets) is in Huangqianling (黄墘嶺) and the nearest village is Pan Xi Cun (磻溪村). There are two ancestral halls for my clan ancestry in Huangqianling (黄墘嶺) area itself but the main activities and my zupu (族譜) is in the main ancestral hall which is some 3km away as the crow flies. Within my ancestral town of Hushan Zhen (岵山鎮) there are many villages and Pan Xi Cun (磻溪村) is only one of the many.
When you mentioned about Generation level, I suppose you mean what generation you or your grandfather would be in within the Yap clan (葉氏) of your ancestral place. Should you have your Zupu (族譜) or Jiapu (家譜) look where the names where your grandfather or your 2nd granduncle Yap Ker (葉科) or any of your Yap (葉/叶) relative is located and you should know your Generation level and maybe the Generation name as well. When you locate that, you would able to determine who would be your nearest relative still living in Gao Tian Cun (高田村). From him you should be able to find out the location of house (if not the house itself) where your grandfather was living before he migrate to Klang.
