Hello all, My grandparents are Yu Shen Li and Mei Qiong Xu, who immigrated to San Francisco, CA in the 1980's. Yu Shen Li was born in 1926 in Guangdong, China; Mei Qiong Xu was born in 1931 in Guangdong, China and her parents are Li, Yut and Hui, Sing M. If any of you know how to find records for Guangdong, China?

Hi Yunjue, I am not aware of any sources that will provide records for your grandparents in Guangdong province. In general, the villages where your grandparents were born may still have village genealogy books that record your grandfather's lineage and your grandmother's lineage through her father's name because women are not recorded in traditional Chinese genealogy books. This means that you need to identify & locate your ancestral villages and then pay for somebody to go to the village to try and locate a copy of the village genealogy book. Can your parents or family or relatives provide you with the Chinese names & locations of your ancestral villages? If not, can you visit the graves of your grandparents and take a clear digital photo of the gravestone if it has inscribed Chinese characters - the Chinese name of your grandfather, Chinese name of his village may be found on the gravestone. If you can post the photo on this Forum, we have Chinese literate members that can read the Chinese characters and provide you with the village names in Chinese. If this is not possible, you need to look at the "Database for Chinese Immigrants Who Entered San Francisco, CA and Honolulu, HI 1881 - 1955". This used to be available online, but it was removed, however, I have these 2 Excel spreadsheets in my DropBox that contain around 130,000 records that you can search electronically because it is an Excel spreadsheet. Here are the links: www.dropbox.com/s/ynniu1qze252jah/AllRecordsPart1.xls?dl=0www.dropbox.com/s/e1mj93dk1zxsknt/AllRecordsPart2.xls?dl=0You may have to be creative in the way you search by trying various combinations of names, spellings, etc. But if you make a hit, then you need to pay attention to the first two fields of information: CASEID - Official recorder identifier Box# - Where the records are stored With this information, you can contact the US National Archives & Records Administration (NARA)to have these records pulled for your personal inspection at their San Bruno, CA location just south of San Francisco, CA or they can make copies and send them to you. These records are a treasure trove of all the information pertaining to your grandparents, probably includes a photo, their place of birth (village), their Chinese name, etc. Henry

the 1980s isn't that long ago. You may be able to get hold of their passports - that will have their birth place. What about your parents - they must have some idea where they come from. They would have been born in China as well?
