Hello, I want to visit my Grandfather's village and have found his papers from when he immigrated into the USA. However, I cannot find village information anywhere. I have checked RootsVillageDB. Surname is Lee. From his paperwork it states that he was from Lung Hing Shar Village in Sun Wui District. He also stated that he was from the Ai Lim Hong ("Hueng"?) section of the Lung Hing Shar Village. He said it was a ten minute walk from the city wall. I have discovered that the city wall was torn down somewhere between 1949-1964 to build a road. Lots of changes around that time, but hoping someone is familiar with this village. Thank you! Erin

Using local phonetic spelling of your Chinese village based on Taishan dialect written by locally educated westerners is very difficult. Try to get Chinese characters from the documents or even better yet images of the tombstones of your grandfather.
What immigration document are you referring? If you are using USA documents during the Exclusionary period, was your ancestor a paper son? You don’t want to go through a lot of steps on inaccurate information.
Please share with us what other information you have.

Hi Doug, thank you so much for your quick reply. I will see if I can find anything with Chinese characters. I'll post as soon as I can find anything. Thanks again!

Are your documents from NARA (National Archives and Record Administration)? Does oral histories indicate a paper son? Besides tombstones, search for Chinese characters from front and backs of photographs, letters, and heirlooms. Post images here and the Chinese literate Forum people will help. With Chinese characters, our map people are amazing.
