tonz1988, Please see this previous reply on the composition & structure for the generational character: siyigenealogy.proboards.com/thread/2880/chinese-names-who-givesTo know your generational poem, you will need a copy of your family/ clan Zheng genealogy book, which usually has the generational poem, from where the generational characters are derived. anton,
Finding the this book can be quite a challenge. Is there one in your family or with your relatives? Is there a Zheng clan association in your city where you might be able to get a copy? If not, then, we have to get the Chinese characters for the name of your ancestral village in China, try to locate the village on a map, have a person go to the village to see if they have the village genealogy book with the names of your ancestors. This can take quite a while and be expensive. This genealogy book would have the generational poem you seek.
Another possible way is to know the marriage names of yourself, your father, your grandfather, your great great grandfather - then, make a list of the middle characters of their names. Then, if you can buy a copy of a Zheng genealogy book from around the area from where your family comes from, you can compare your listing with the generational poem in the Zheng genealogy book.
Sometimes, families follow the order of the generational characters in the poem, while some do not - but, usually it is fairly close. If you can get a couple of the generational characters for your son & descendants - this might be all you need. Sorry for giving you such a rather crude solution, but, it would be close enough - to work. Good Luck to you :-)

Please note. The practices of different village areas might be different. After I finally found my family's naming sequence, I was told they only used it for the sons' marriage names. The sequence does not apply to birth names. Some locales are more organized and have maybe three poems depending on the purpose. So I went to a lot of trouble only to find out very few of us could be officially registered in the lineage, since bachelors and sons of female siblings don't count.

Hi tonz1988,
If you are Zheng (鄭) from Indonesia, there is a good possibility your ancestor originated from the County of Yongchun (Eng Choon in Hokkien) (永春). If so I could provide the various sets of generation names for different Zheng (鄭) clans in Yongchun, as well as those for Anxi or Dehua counties. However you still need to know either the ancestral village that your ancestor originated from or the name of your particular Zheng clan,
