Henry,
Here is my list of how to do the next Ching Ming, does it seem complete?
Thank you, Fay Chee
My List:
Ching Ming
First, sweep away any weeds or debris from headstone, wash with water and a brush, reposition if needed, and freshen the paint on the gravestone’s lettering.
Lay out food, 3 cups of wine, tea or bourbon (or the person's favorite drink) in front
Place the whole chicken (head & feet on), pork, or fish towards the headstone as if they were still alive (chicken breast on ground, back is up as if still alive, head toward stone), 3 bowls of rice, boiled eggs, fruit and sweet buns
Note: The 3 chopsticks should be placed with rounded end towards the food and square base toward headstone.
Place flowers, live or cut.
The actual ceremony.
- light 2 candles and place in front of headstone
- hold 3 unlit incense sticks and bow 3 times, then light the incense, while holding, bow 3 times and say a prayer, then place in front of the headstone.
- Pour the 3 cups of wine/liquor onto the grave. Refill the cups
- the next person bows 3 times holding the unlit incense, lights and bows 3 more times, then places them into the ground. Then pours the refilled 3 cups of wine on grave.
- repeat for all people....from eldest to youngest participant.
Paper offerings:
Gather all of the hell money and offerings that you plan to burn and bow with them 3 times.
Find the burn bucket and start burning the offerings while at the same time, saying the name of the person who you want to receive it
Everything must be completely burned including the candles and incense, otherwise the person won't receive them.
Examples of things to bring:
Flowers, oranges, apples, sweet cakes, chicken, pork, fish, cooked rice, hard boiled eggs, Bourbon or favorite drink
Water, candles, incense, chopsticks, bowls, table cloth, 'Hell' money, Joss paper, blow torch or lighter, wet wipes or wet cloth to clean your hands. Garbage bags.
