Here is a link to a very useful database which currently only lists surnames with villages in Taishan and Kaiping www.insearchofroots.org/villagedb/display.cgiEventually the author hopes to include data for Xinhui and Zhongshan.

Would you by any chance have any data on Hay Long (not sure of the spelling) Village in Namwan or GuangHai? If you do I would appreciate knowing any link to the "Chin" family. Much obliged.

Sorry, the link is no longer working, so I can't check the database for you.

The link is working again! I inputted surname Chin and looked through the Guanghai (Kwong Hoi Heung) listing but could not find a village called "Hay Long". There is no listing under Nanwan (Nam Wan). Perhaps you should check on your village name again and then do a search and see if you recognize any of the other village names.

What a wonderful labor of love. Who developed the database? Thank you so much for making the link available.
It was a little bit tricky to use at first as I was unfamiliar with what areas and heungs were about. I also suppose that the heung and village names were transliterated from Cantonese or Mandarin. I am a US-born descendant who can barely make out a few Chinbese characters. Therefore, I must rely on my aural recollection of my family data which is in Hoisanese.
Nonetheless, I was able to find my family's village of “„”ö—ä Tong May Ling or. in Hoisanese, Hong May Liang
Thanks again, Lucky Choi luckychoi@aol.com

The listing of villages and surnames is very helpful. I wonder if you will do Zhuhai. The village of Cho Pui ( Cantonese ) or Zaobei ( Mandarin ) is located near the Macao border. Formerly it was part of Zhongshan but then later was incorporated into Zhuhai. It would be nice if you can include this area. I have started a web page for China Family research tools. The village I have linked a copy of the name in Chinese. If anyone can tell me about this place it would be appreciated. Thank you. www.childtalk.com/History/chinafamilyresearch.html

Perhaps I should clarify the database referred to is not mine but the work of Dominic Yu who may be reached at dyupc@blyt.net should you have any questions about its content. At his site he indicated about possible future addition of Zhongshan and Xinhui counties to his database.
