Hey Andrew,
My family surname is (Low/Lau/Liu) from Lung Doo in Shekki also.
I suppose I should check to see if you are Andrew in Australia, whose mother is Lorna, in which case, "Hi Coz!" If so, please let me know what you find. I might also have some very interesting stuff for you too.
If not please excuse the honest mistake.
For all other readers out there, can advise if there is a reliable way to track family histories if one knows the village from which the family originated?
I am desperate for information, and have not had a lot of assistance from my father, who insists he is too old to remember.

Bill,
It is not unusual that some of our elders cannot remember anymore. Especially, the family genealogy - hence, the need to preserve family and clan genealogy books (zupus).
Can your father write the Chinese names of your grandfather and/or great grandfather or other relatives ? If possible, a digital photo of the gravestone of your ancestors is available, this usually has the Chinese characters for the names of the ancestor, ancestral village, county, and dates of birth and death.
If you are sure that you have the correct name of the ancestral village, possibly confirmed by gravestone information or by a family member - then a reliable way to acquire a copy of the family genealogy book and to know if you have any relatives left in the village is to have someone go to your ancestra village to research this information and to make copies of the family zupu and any other relevant information available. If you are serious and would like to have this done - please contact me on Tomclan@gmail.com and I can arrange this for you.

I visited my grandfathers village, kai kok, last year. It is not easy to find. I found a guy on a motorcycle, you know, the local taxi, anyway, he was a Low and I followed him to the village. It was hidden away within alot of buildings. You cross the bridge from sek-kai (Putonghua or Mandarin is shiqi) and you follow this narrow alley (street) into kai kok. It opens up into a small city. Very modern. Was trying to find my family's home there but was unable to locate it. Will go back this year.

It's easy to find the location in map BUT easily get lost when actually in there. 谿角(起隆堡、芳瑞堡、雲漢堡) became 2 village 龍瑞 (ex:起隆堡+芳瑞堡) /雲漢(ex 雲漢堡) The sateiliate image / If came to 中山 by inter-city bus , the main station is located at OLD 谿角's (today=石岐西區) boundary.

tyuti1668, You are flying the colours of Chungshan and Lung Doo people in particular in this Forum. Can't let the Sze Yup mob have all the fun. Keep up the good work.
Love to speak to you in Lung Doo wa one day.

Douglas, As a HK born child, my oral "Lung Doo wa" is quite poor - lack of vocab, but i don't like the "fill the blank w/Cantonese" idea, so often fill the "blank" w/ F word which offer time to dig the "right word" from my rusty memory to complete the sentence. ;D(After watching some "Taiwanese" tv series , more similar "word" dig from my memory. )

Lower Lung Doo (大涌) is quite difficult to mark the exact village boundary (For example :my home village is next to 南文) in wikimapia, I only marked these landmark- temple, gas station, hotel, market, hospital & school... When the chinese version is complete, english will also added slowly.
