Hi Helen
What dates are you travelling? I'm going to be travelling through GZ in early October. I'm a member of the Wellington Tung Jung Association through my mother's side. I was hoping to track down my father's village.

Hi Graham - leaving Auckland October 6. Will be in Xintang October 7,8 and 9. What is you family's last name? Does Gordon Wu know your family roots? If you need to go to Zengcheng, and the timing is right - we could meet up in Xintang. PM me, and I will email you our contact.

Hi Helen I'll be arriving in Guangzhou 5th October travelling from Urumqi. I was thinking of visiting mum's ancestral village on the 6th. It's 曾城石下村 which is supposed to be 1 hour from Guangzhou. I'll PM you. www.cfguide.com/town/Xintang_343607343.htmSo, looking at that link XinTang town comprises a number of villages of total population 190,000 and I think my mother's village is ShiXia.

Helen, I am off to Europe on Sept 19, on my way home, I'll fly from Paris to Hong Kong on Oct. 7. Not sure when I'll be in China. I went to Guilin for two nights last year. I tried the high speed train to and from Guilin. Guilin by night at the riverside is simply delightful. Don't miss it.
Hope to meet you and L.C. in China. Yum cha is on me. Douglas

Helen, I don't have a firm itinerary. It depends on the people I am going to meet up who may need my help. Are you on Wechat?

Helen, I am also slow in taking up new technology. It is next to impossible to keep up with contacts in China without WeChat. There is always email to keep in touch. Hope to meet in Guangzhou. Douglas

Helen
I ended up not going to my mother's village. Although my cousin was willing to take us I thought that was a little optimistic on account of her health. And I also ended up spending three days in Zhaoqing. We also thought we had one more day in Guangzhou but realised when we went to book some extra days at the hotel that our flight to leave was at 12:30 AM and not PM so we had a day less! Also our cousin said it was 2 hours from GZ instead of 1 hour as she had initially had told us so that made it less likely we would be able to make the trip comfortably. Oh well, the GZ zoo was pretty interesting instead.
Next year I guess we will be going.

that midnight flight puts everyone on the wrong side of another day. I also had a 12.30am flight and had to be at the airport on Friday night - for Saturday am flight. Hope you enjoyed your time away. It was a bit too humid for me.
