We have a writer in New Zeraland - wanting to know how this was done.
"Is there anyone who knows anything about the 10 Jungseng coffins that were supposedly loaded onto the SS Ventnor in Wellington in 1902 or 1903 or 1904 or something to take the bones back to China for reburial. Most of the coffins were non-Jungseng (incl Mr Sew Hoy) and were loaded in Dunedin, but the ship apparently stopped afterwards in Wgtn for the JS coffins. The ship sank off the Hokianga and all the coffins were lost. Apparently a few made it to shore, probably JS ones as they weren't lead lined like the others and therefore not as heavy. Some were apparently found by local Maori and 'reburied' in very isolated Maori tapu burial grounds. "
"What I really need to know, if anyone knows, is how it was done, who did it, how the remains were put into the coffins and what the coffins were like as I'm supposed to be describing it in the novel. My fictional characters have an uncle this happens to and they are invlved in it all. "
Did this happen for any of the other Chinese in other countries?
