The "hotel" quarantined for "H1N1" is Metropark Hotel Wanchai/ 41-49,Henessy Rd, Wanchai , HK I got some benefit from the "flu" in Saturday - the bus stop moved forward to MTR station which shorten walking distance to the opposite side CTS branch (bus hub to Guangdong in HK Island)

tyuti 1668,
As you are our know-all ( I am saying this in a respectful way) on transport and hotel link between HK and the mainland, perhaps you can enlighten me on the Metropark Hotel, Lai Chi Kok Rd. Is the hotel near Portland St. and Nathan Rd? Three years ago, I was staying at the China Travel Service hostel, which was practically next door to a hotel. I think it may have been the Metropark.
Do you know the hostel I am talking about? The rates are very reasonably. It suits us as we don't have a lot of money to splash on hotels and we prefer the lower end of the market just above backpackers'. It was recommended to us by someone who works at CTS. It is very basic but the price tag is a pleasant surprise. I intend to book the family into it later on in the year.
Budget travellers take note.
Douglas

tyuti1668, Thanks for identifying the specific Metropark Hotel - I'll stay away from that one when I come in November. DouglasIam, Here is a map and the business card. I know that there are buses near this hotel that go directly to Taishan. Henry mysite.verizon.net/vzepzaui/Metropark card.jpg[/img]

It comes as no surprise that our resident guru Henry and tyuti1668 are right on the money. tyuti1668 can be depended on anything Chinese in our Forum search. And Henry our accomplished cartographer really gives us the edge. I doubted if there is another Forum can boast of a geographer who can pinpoint the most obscure of villages. Henry, I may throw a curly one in your direction one day
I found the CTS hostel in Portland St. near the Metropark outstanding for the same reasons tyuti1668 has listed. It can be reached by airport express bus, the metro, route buses, short walk to the Chungshan bus terminus, eateries close by and much more. I rest my case.
Sorry, Peninsula Hotel, you don't rate in my book.

DouglasIam, Thank you for the kind words - tyuti1668 and I appreciate your comments. I am sure I cannot find every village, however, the collective capability of Forum members is rather powerful and hopefully, we can find the majority of them. There are many overseas Chinese that would be rather helpless in trying to find their ancestral village - without some help. This is where it all started - with their ancestors leaving this special place and now their descendants returning to visit - to complete the full circle. The ancestral village is where overseas Chinese can identify remaining village relatives and possibly find their family clan genealogy book. For those that do not know the Chinese characters for their village name - check the gravestones of your ancestors. Below is a more detailed map showing the MTR stations and bus locations around the Metropark Hotel in Kowloon. Henry

Although this is quite late to give a reply as you have probably already made the trip to China, but when I went to visit my ancesteral village, I too did not know any body specific there. As I was warned, I was approached by people there who claimed to be my relative expecting to get a Li see from me. Not knowing any specific family or make any kind of verification they were truly my family I was caught in a bind when they were expecting a Li see from this Q tow from America. Know who your family relatives really are or you will be unknowingly supporting the entire village.

Welcome back tyuti1668, it has been years since I last saw your contribution to this forum. I am not as active as I once was, and I haven't been back to China since 2019. A return visit is in the offing in the next two or three months. Hope to meet up with you in person soon.
