Hey, it's Summer over here. Tennis is on, cricket is in full swing. Temperature touching 42 degrees C today.
From time time I have a chuckle when I see postings -- there are a number of us who claim "are not Chinnese literate" -- Henry being one such claiment. But again and again he has no difficulties in tracking down places, once the Chinese characters are in front of him. There are other resourcesful ones also.
Me, I don't read Chinese either, nor Queens English for that matter. Only broken English. Does not matter lah. So long as we can get the points across and find the places or people loh.
My full respect to all folks who claims "I can't read Chinese"
Regards, Ah Gin

Ahgin,
I can truely claim "I can't speak, read or write chinese". I have only just come to recognise the chinese family names on both sides of the family. I suppose that's a start.
All my research in Australia has been in english so my lack of chinese literacy hasn't been a problem. I expect my problem will come when I quiz the relatives in China. It will take a little longer to obtain the info but I'll treat it as a challenge. I have already asked the relatives for a list of names & was supplied with a list of male names by generation, without any indication of who is related to who, nor any females. I suppose this wasn't a language barrier but a cultural difference. I'll have to be more specific in future.
