Hi everybody... I'm Kenny Chan from KL, Malaysia. I am trying to trace my ancestors from XinHui county. I remember my father told me that my grand dad came from a village called Shek Tau in XinHui county. It is possible that my grandfather came over to Malaya duringt the 1910s when he was 16. Does anyone know about the Chans who migrated over to Malaya during the beginning of the last century? I am particularly interested to know about Shek Tau village and the temple there that houses the family book. I was told that my grand dad's name is in that book. I have just taken a look at my Xinhui map. There is marketd on it a mention of a Chan historic home near Shi Tou. Maybe you are lucky!

The old residence referred to by Kinmun belonged to a Chen Yuan and is very close to a village called Luojiang. It is most likely maintained as a museum today, and may have on display his genealogy records in glass case (just a guess). Then again maybe nothing, like the Chen Temple in Guangzhou City.

To Kenny Chan and Chans from Shek Tou Xunwui( Xinhui).
I've seen a partial list of our genealogy in Canada about 10 years ago. I don't have the list. This came from a distant cousin in Singapore who identified himself from the same ancestral village. He's the second person who's been able to mention "Shek Tou" from Xinhui county. The 1st person my father came across was someone from Malaysia.
I know we have a generational poem. My father had said if someone could match the first line, then we'll know that we are cousins(of various degrees). Just wonder if any of you out there knows this generational poem? My grandfather Chan Yun Mun, first migrated to Singapore in the early 1900-1910s with his cousin. Then later he moved to Penang, and then moved again to Ipoh after WWII. Our family migrated to Canada in the 90s. My father also had distant cousins who ( are descendants of my grandfather's cousin who moved to Singapore with him) migrated to Canada in the 60s. I am too removed from that generation to know their generational names.
Does anyone know the generational poem for the Chans of Shek Tou, Xinhui? If you do, I'd like to hear from you via email at chanjo128@aol.com.
