The Archives of the Catholic Archdiocese of Canton Will Open to Researchers in Summer 2011 The Ricci Institute for Chinese-Western Cultural History at the University of San Francisco Center for the Pacific Rim is very pleased to announce that the newly digitized archives of the former Catholic Archdiocese of Canton will become available to researchers beginning in summer 2011. The Archives consist of over 15,000 documents in French, Latin, and Chinese, including plans, maps, parish statistical records, correspondence, deeds, contracts, petitions, decrees, and artifacts, covering activities between 1851 and 1949. A searchable finding aid covering the entire digitized Archives will be available online in Summer 2011 to facilitate exploration of the holdings. The Ricci Institute welcomes interest from scholars in all fields, either online through the finding aid or through actual visits to the Institute. Further announcements about research fellowships and other related activities by the Institute will be forthcoming.
