Helen, good for you for observing this festival.
I just heard from a good source, the Rookwood Cemetery is releasing land for the Chinese to erect memorials but they won't be in the same prime location as our Chungshan one. Toon Koon / Dongguan 東莞 and Yiu Ming 高要 people will definitely go ahead with the project regardless of cost. The Sze Yup 四邑 people, wait for it, are strapped for cash !! I am not sure about your mob the Zengcheng 増城 people. Will they or will they not?

Douglas, it is some time since I have checked in on the forum, and I have no particular reason for having done so today, so you can imagine the emotional jolt I felt when I read your report on Ching Ming this year and saw your pictures of my grandfather's grave. I do thank you so much for the respect and attention that you generously pay to Andrew. I know Uncle Denis will be equally moved when I pass the message on to him and he reads your descriptions of the day for himself. I am only sorry that I have been a bit distracted of late, and therefore the date of the event passed me by. I have every intention of resuming my research into Andrew's life and ensuring that his resting place is properly tended. Again, I thank you for caring so much for our family. You continue to be a wonderful friend. Lolly

Lolly, I am paying Andrew the respect due him as an elder. Whatever his follies or virtues, he was mortal. The poor man never had a chance to return home to see the folks dear to him when he was a youngster, or walk the narrow lane ways of his home village. He might have maintained a tough facade, underneath, I bet he was a softie for his home village and those dear to him in Australia. I talked to him in our dialect, and assured him he won't be forgotten from now on.
I am taking a week leave in February 2016 to attend a wedding in Melbourne. Yum cha is on me. My best regards for Uncle Denis and Bill, see you all in about ten months if not sooner.
Douglas
