I came across the following post when researching the same family (on behalf of a family member), but I coudn't see any follow-up. In response to laohuaqiao's questions: Lew Shing was born around 1835, left for Australia around 1855, but his body (coffin) was apparently returned to China around 1914, ten years after his death. We do not know the characters for his name, but his Australian-born son was verifiably 劉潤林 of 横水. His Australian death certificate gives his father's name as Lew Hung-hok, and I am guessing something like 劉鴻學. Grateful for any help! Melissa, Do you have anything in Chinese at all, names, correspondences, etc.? Do you know of anyone Chinese who might have been acquainted with your grandfather when he was alive and might know his origin? If you would like, I could ask my father if heard of a Leu Sen or Lew Shing. You would have to provide me with approximate year he was born, when he left China for Australia, any siblings, children and other known relatives, their names, any story about him that may helpful to identify his Chinese origin, as much information as you can. Send me this info via the forum's private message, if you prefer. There is a Wang Shui Clan Association in New York, I can ask there too.

Hi Helen, I have just become a member. I want to locate my father's village in Toishan. I have the Chinese characters. How do I start a new thread?
Thank you.

There's a village in Taishan called "横水” and the clan that lives in this village are the Lew clans. It's high probability that this is the village you're looking for.
