The photograph shows me kowtowing to the unmarked graves of my great-grandparents. Their remains were re-buried here after being dug up during the revolution. The background shows the vegetation covering part of the grave area of the cemetery. This new cemetery is just a stone’s throw away from my grandparents’ village. My uncles were so obliging to 'machete' a trail to the graves in the late afternoon for my morning visit the next day.

Wow, what an interesting photo of a burial site. Does each 'bump' represent a person? is there a jar with the bones inside covered by the dirt?

Ngkokweng, nice that your relatives were there to guide you with the kowtowing. I would be lost.

I need help. I appeal to the experts in this forum to give me some pointers. I am planning a second trip to Kaiping in November/December 2013 later this year. My primary objective is to do up the graves of my great grandparents and give them a decent-proper-respectable burial.
I wish to know how to go about achieving it and what is the minimum budget I should set aside.
My principal considerations are: a. To build a tomb stone each for my great grandparents (but nothing sticking out like a sore thumb) similar to the ones in the surrounding area preferably to be ready by February/March 2014 next year. b. To perform a simple ritual for my great grandparents in a manner according to their traditions.

Hi Fay Chee,
I don’t have the answers to your questions now. I will certainly find out in my next visit. During my previous visit, I thought of those questions too and many more. Unfortunately, I felt too uncomfortable to ask them which I was afraid might come across as being rude.

Ngkokweng, You are always one step ahead of me. It is like you are the twin that came out first. I want to do the same at my village, so I will wait to see what suggestions you get...........

We set the general guidelines and approved the plan and price quote from the contractors and that was it.

laohuaqiao,
It has been quite awhile since the last time I visited this forum. Thank you for your recommendations. I will do just that. I have made travel arrangement to visit my newly-found relatives again. I will be with them the week after next to spend a couple of days with them. This time, I have my elder brother with me to do this trip.

My elder brother and me visited Kai Ping again in 2014. We even attended our nephew's wedding dinner. Tomorrow, my dad's eldest sister's daughter and her husband are visiting us in Singapore. She is 76 and her husband is 82. There will be about 30 of us gathering in my parents' place. Looking forward to meeting up with them!
