Australian Chinese Heroes against Discrimination Saturday, April 2, 2016 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM Chinese Heritage Australia Association’s Kingsley Liu will address the question of whether our "story of discriminatory incidents throughout Australia Chinese History can become the narrative for our own statements for redress and acknowledgement" HIs presentation will include supporting addresses from various members of CHAA in the audience to show how redress, for discriminatory events over 100 years before, was brought about in recent times by the national governments in NZ, Canada and USA. Overview with slides will cover the advocacy work of various leading Australian Chinese over 100 years ago - William Ah Ket, Lu Moo (Granny Lum Loy), and John So during the backdrop of gold field riots 1857 & 1860, discriminatory poll taxes 1855 and Immigration Restriction Act 1901 ( White Australia Policy) and its effect.
