Hi Helen
Many thanks for the information, thanks goodness the missionaries kept these records of their time in China. I was interested to know what happened to these pioneering missionaries after they were asked to leave China, I met a priest who was asked to leave China in the 1950's but too young then to learn from his first hand experience as he seem to have suffered.
I hope that when douglaslam eventually makes it to New Zealand he could stop at Christchurch to talk to the surviving old Chinese folks at our Chinese Association and have tea with them, I can arrange a slide projector for the afternoon. If you could come it would be the icing on the cake. I have two spare bedrooms and am offering you both a place to stay in my humble home in Christchurch, coming from Sydney on a circular journey Sydney - Auckland - Christchurch - Sydney would cost not much more than Sydney - Auckland - Sydney return. Perhaps we could put this on a to do list as we are losing old members rapidly.
Regards
Joe

Joe, it is very tempting to make my first trip across The Tasman. I won't be able to do it this year because I have already taken a week's leave for Melbourne in Feb. / March. On Sunday, 17 April, I will be going to Japan with my wife and daughter. And in October, I'll be likely going to China with a cousin from San Francisco.
I'll apply for a week's leave after Ching Ming next year for New Zealand. Together with the weekend, I can probably have close to ten days in New Zealand. Plenty of time to catch up with you, Helen and my other friends in Auckland. Douglas

Thanks douglaslam, and we do look forward to meet up with you when you make the trip to New Zealand. I am taking time to attend a wedding in Malaysia on September 17th 2016 and thought of swinging into Shenzen - Zhuhai - Taicheng Toisan - and Haiyan for a week before or after the wedding, bones are creaking at his age and am trying to plan carefully as no longer a spring chicken who did a lot of backpacking a long time ago and now need a soft bad and convenient place to empty the water works.
