Hi Ryan: I believe the current location of the village is as follows: 廣東省 Guangdong Province 開平市 Kaiping City 峴港鎮 Xiangang Town 蜆北管區 Xianbei District 南興村 Nanxing Village I am not skilled in using Google maps. Perhaps someone else can zero in on the village, but Xiangang town is here: goo.gl/maps/8gRdGsfZe8Et3orx7Greg

Greg, Henry,
Thank you both for assisting me in locating my village on google maps. Much appreciated! Although the satellite image on the village is quite blurry, I can now find the general location of the village. Again, I thank you both and I do hope to speak again. For now, stay safe and have a great year!
Cheers! Ryan Huang

Hi Ryan,
Please check with your family, last bit of information from the Village Database [http://villagedb.friendsofroots.org/display.cgi/heung/292], village # 19 to confirm that this is your ancestral village Nam Hing / Nanxing is also known as "Ham Yu Tau" ( Salted Fish Head ) village 咸魚頭村.
Contingent upon the anti-viral medications & vaccines, I will be leading another China Workshop in April 2021. If you are interested in joining us, it includes research on your village and an escorted visit, please contact me directly: Tomclan@Gmail.com

Hi Ryan:
Please excuse me for leading you on a wild goose chase. I gave you the wrong information earlier. Thanks to lachinatown for catching my mistake. Here is the correct information about your village:
廣東省 Guangdong Province 開平市 Kaiping City 蜆岡鎮 Xiangang Town 春一村委會 Chunyi Village Committee 南興村 Nanxing Village

Greg,
You did not mislead Ryan:
Using either set of simplified Chinese characters for Xianbei or Chunyi district, will locate Nanxing village.
Actually, where did you find the Xianbei reference? The Chunyi district was noted in the Village Database.
It may be that your source for the Xianbei district is a more updated source for district names - the website where you found this latest information would be a good reference source.

Hi Greg, Hi Henry
I do believe the first location was correct, however if there was a photo I could try to zoom in to see. In the first photo I could find the gate and the tower in the entrance (far left) of the village but I am not sure if it is the correct one. Perhaps if there is a photo of the second location i could try to confirm. Unfortunately, I am not sure how to locate individual villages online so if someone could try to find a photo that would be great.

Hi Henry:
I did find a reference to a Nanxing Village, Xianbei District on one of those websites that list postal codes in China. I now think there are two Nanxing Villages, one in Xianbei and one in Chunyi. But the one that has the "leaning tower" is the one in Chunyi. I should have looked more carefully. The Baidu entry for Xiangang Town mentions both Xianbei and Chunyi as areas overseen by Xiangang, so they have to be two different places.
Chinese geographical names are so confusing, with so many identical names or similar names and so many name changes and boundary changes over the years, that searching for the modern location of ancestral villages can be a dizzying activity, to say the least!

Hi Greg & Ryan, Finding the location of ancestral villages can sometimes be quite a challenge, especially when you happen to be Chinese illiterate like me. Based upon what has transpired, I am losing confidence in Baidu, even though Greg mentioned that Baidu says that Xiangang Town administers both Xianbei & Chunyi. I used the simplified addresses for Nanxing village in both heungs in a Baidu search - resulting in the same location near Chunyi - duhhhh ! Here is the detailed map & satellite imagery for the Nanxing village in Xianbei: Here is a Google Map showing both locations: Here is the Village Database page that shows both the Nam Hing / Nanxing villages: A good way to determine the correct village is to ask family members look at the names of the nearby villages: There are 29 other villages in Xianbeing heung: villagedb.friendsofroots.org/display.cgi/heung/292There are 10 other villages in Chunyi heung: villagedb.friendsofroots.org/display.cgi/heung/238Personally, I think the Nam Hing / Nanxing village in Chun Yi heung is the correct ancestral village. Hi Greg & Henry
Thank you for your tremendous help! I am pretty sure that the village in Chunyi Heung to be the right one as the leaning tower is located there.
