I recently returned from a trip to Guangdong Province. We visited a small village Da wan Cun 大湾村 in the siyi region. My late mother was a Chan 陈。My great grand father 陈富宜 (22nd generation) migrated to the then British Malaya in the 19th century. I have obtained a family tree that goes back to the 20th generation 陈良胖。 I understand that my great grand father was related to Wong Ah Fook, a well known pioneer builder in Malaya/Singapore. My grand father (23rd generation) 陈禀宗 ( known as Chan Ah Poh in Johor, Malaya) was killed by the Japanese during the world war II. My current cousin 陈孟楷 is the 25th generation originating from ancestors in Da Wan Cun. I notice that the line follows some of the generation poem that I found in a posting by Damon in USA: 19th generation: 茂嘉 (Mau Ga) 20th generation: 良締 (Leung Dai) b. 1779 21st generation: 學問 (Hok Heung) b. 1821, 學篤 (Hok Duk), 學治 (Hok Ji), 學梧 (Hok Ng) 22nd generation: 豪宜 (Hou Yi) b. 1848 (3 brothers total) 23rd generation: 效宗 (Haau Jung) b. 1892 (3 brothers total) This is the generation poem/names: 茂良學宜宗孔孟華國以文章 Now I would like to know which Chen/Chan line I can trace back to in the Da Wan Cun village in Taishan 台山. ngsuaneng, In a previous thread: siyigenealogy.proboards.com/thread/752/common-ancestor-surname-chen?page=27I provided you with a chart of Chen Hui aka Chen Feng Tai, considered by many to be the first Chen ancestor of Guangdong province, with his 7 sons. The Chen people of the Dawan village that you visited are descended from the second son of Chen Hui - that would be Chen Xuan, this is according to my friend Amy Chin, who is also descended from this Dawan village. Amy also provided you with a link to the full village genealogy book of Dawan village and you can download the PDF and trace back your lineage to Chen Hui: drive.google.com/file/d/1iJ-EQW6kiI4AqQWQzN-Ex5tx5ubFtVtm/view?usp=sharing My other friend, Philip Tan (Chen) in a thread: siyigenealogy.proboards.com/thread/845/chen-tan-chan-chin-clandedicated to Chen genealogy can also provide you with the other 117 generations before Chen Hui back to HuangDi ( Yellow Emperor - 2697 BC - 2597 BC ). Hi there,
I am a Chen 陳 and my ancestor came from Liu Cun, Dawan, Taishan. My great grandfather was just like your great grandfather who came to Penang, Malaya in the 19th century. He was the 22nd generation and having almost the same name like your great grandfather. His name was 陳賢宜.
I have also part of the poem of genealogical names, from the 11th to 50th. If you're interested I'll share with you. Similarly, since you've been back to Dawan Cun, can you share some of your photos there? I've never been back to Toisan tho' I have some info about my relatives living there.
You're free to contact me at +6012-6922327 (Bally Chin) thru whatsapp or call. Hope you can share some further info. Thank you

Ngsuaneng, I stumbled upon your family generation poem on this site. It seems to include branches the Chen/Chan's. It’s underneath the paragraph heading << 新會 臺山陳宣翁子孫班派 >> or the 15th paragraph from the top of the page. www.nanchens.com/chcs/chcs03/chcs03008.htm. You may want to see if it offers you some more information. Good luck.
