Hi, If anyone know the village 灰窑村 exist near 田头赤溪 Taishan? My uncle use to tell me that our ancestral village is in 田头赤溪 and Foi Yao Chun (in Hakka). I don't seem to find it on Google map though I can find 田头赤溪

Not all little villages are shown on a map of this size.

Thank you lachinatown. I have no idea of the size of the village. Perhaps it is too small.

ty, 田头 is a rather large village & encompasses several small villages, if you go there, they can probably tell you where 灰窑村 is located. www.google.com/maps/place/Tiantou,+Taishan,+Guangdong,+Jiangmen,+Guangdong+Province,+China/@21.9724045,112.8630795,13z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x3401c41bbcb30777:0xc990c3c5e40e8ff1!8m2!3d21.972404!4d112.89812?hl=en However, there is a 灰窑村 located about 60 miles west of 田头 www.google.com/maps/place/Hui+Kiln,+Taishan,+Guangdong,+Jiangmen,+Guangdong+Province,+China/@22.0406162,112.2659854,11z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x36aa6e14ba02f8eb:0xfb0486815df045c5!8m2!3d22.040597!4d112.406085?hl=en Henry

Thank you lachinatown. Very good suggestion. That is what I will probably do if I ever visit. Finding the Zupu or record will probably be helpful. Interesting that there is a 灰窑村 so far west. TY.

Ty,
If you do visit and seek your family zupu, ask the village chief, or check with the village committee or see if there is a ancestral hall nearby.
I also suggest bringing a chart that has the names of the descendants of your grandfather to the present. Give a red envelope of money to have your lineage included in the next update of the zupu and leave your address so they can send you a copy.

Hi Henry, Thank you. The challenge is to find the village. Are Zupu kept at the village level or at county level or mostly at ancestral halls? It would be great if these are all archived at some county library and get digitized someday. I have a feeling my grandfather registered his off-springs in the Zupu. Best regards TY Ty, If you do visit and seek your family zupu, ask the village chief, or check with the village committee or see if there is a ancestral hall nearby. Ty,
I believe when you arrive in 田头 village, the people there will be able to tell your where 灰窑村 is located. This is so common in rural village clusters.
Village genealogy books are the best source, clan zupus in ancestral halls or at the county level usually only include the basic lineages for many villages of the same clan and because they try to keep the size of the zupu book set at a manageable level - they leave out the annotations & details that talk about who migrated where and whether they went overseas.
