Hi Sally: I believe Ko Yuen/Gaoyuan Village is now located in Sah Wu/Shahu Town, Yanping/Enping City, Kongmoon/Jiangmen City, Guangdong Province 廣東省江門市恩平市沙湖鎮高源村. According to a Chinese article on Baidu, the village consists solely of residents of the Ng/Wu 吳 surname. Here is a video of the village, which seems to be quite lovely and prosperous, with a long history of overseas Chinese connections: www.ixigua.com/6981436334015676959?logTag=613e75b0ee5a556dbe8eGreg

Oh Greg! Thank you.
The people on this group are the best. I struggle with things at times as I am quite limited with reading the Chinese Characters, though I am trying to learn and can recognise many place and name characters now - but there's so much to learn.
This will mean a lot to the man I am helping.

Hi Greg, Thank you for the pinyin for both the village of Ko Yuen, Guoyuan, and the town that the village is in, Shahu. Hi Sally, Thanks to the information from Greg, I was able to find the pages for the village of 果園 / Guoyuan / Guǒyuán / Gwo² jyun⁴ and the town of 沙湖鎮 / Shahuzhen / Shāhúzhèn / Saa¹ wu⁴ zan³. I was, however, unable to find Eng Fook Bo in the database. I did find, though, Guoyuan's administrative district, 烏石 / Wushi / Wūshí / Wu¹ sek⁶. As Greg mentioned, Guoyuan consists solely of residents with the surname 吳 / Ng / Wú / Ng⁴. LJeung

Happy New Year LJeung,
If you are looking his name in a zupu, are you looking for the Chinese characters for his "hao" ( marriage name ), which is usually used in the zupu lineages. It might be in in his birth/milk name if he was not married at the time. If you have the Chinese characters for the name of his father & grandfather - you may be able to find the family lineage that way. If their in a Eng ancestral hall in the area, they may have some zupus also.

Hi all, I happen to have a 2006 version of the Wu Genealogy of Enping (Ng Genealogy of Yanping), spanning 4 volumes and 2944 pages. There are family trees for 高園 Ko Yuen Village ( VillageDB link), founded in the early Ming dynasty, with a population of 2,328, constituting 66 pages of the publication. The generational characters are: 賢能衍朝,英厚德澤。 Yin Neng Hin Chiu, Ying Hau Tak Tsak. I see that Ng Fook Hing and Hom Shee are listed as the parents of the subject. If I could be provided with names of additional male family members and their spouses (for the males, ideally names that contain the generational characters listed above), I could take a skim through the pages to spot the family.
Generational characters are often used on headstones. If you don't have images of your relatives' headstones, you might be able to find them on FindAGrave.com. There's a Ng Fook Hing buried in Richmond, BC; however, his place of origin is Poonyu County, not Yanping, and his dates (1924-1999) probably don't match Sally's search ( link here).
There are also family trees for 果園 Kwo Yuen Village, founded 1863, with a population of approximately 200, constituting 5 pages of the publication. It is a much smaller village and there is no one by the name of Fook Hing listed.
Let me know!
Cheers, Jason

Hi there, Jason!
I'm so sorry I missed your reply... I must work out how to turn on notifications for my threads - the only way I find them is to log in and check. There must be an easier way!
Thank you for your very informative reply. I've had a look at the information we have for Ng Fook Hing and his family, unfortunately for us it seems all of his sons went be an English version of their names - no characters on gravestones for any of his sons, and no record of any brothers or uncles for him sadly.
However, having an approximate idea of the likely village is more than we had before...! My friend was happy with that knowledge.
Thank you, Jason. Much obliged.
Sally
