Hello, I’m looking for some help in researching my family tree (finding the Zupu and/or generational poem). My paternal grandfather 許公昌 was from Sai Kay Village 西岐村 in Toishan. I’ve heard his father 許䊮 was once the mayor of the village around WWII, so hopefully that would help some.
Any help is much appreciated as I’ve hit a roadblock researching further.
Thanks! Kristina

Hi Kristina, "Sai Kay" aka in Pinyin is "Xi qi" Click on "Sai Kay" for the Google Map location: Sai KayThe location of the ancestral village is important because this is where you may be able to find a copy of the village genealogy book that contains your family lineage. This is a large scale map that shows the original village and the new village by the same name: Henry

Hi Henry, there's a 西岐村 in Taishan that has no "new" or "old" in the village name.

Peter, The village you found is about 7 miles from Sibu. According to the Village Database, the village I found is a 許 village with just the Sai Kay name: villagedb.friendsofroots.org/display.cgi/heung/215I doubt if the original Sai Kay village had the "old" included in its name. I believe it as assigned the " Sai Kay Old Village" name in the current Tianditu digital cartographic database to distinguish it from the "Sai Kay New village. " Henry

Thanks Henry, the village in your first post is my family’s. I’m located in the US, do you know how I can reach out for a Zupu? The family associations in the US apparent don’t have one for the village. My dads part of the one in SF.

Krish,
If your dad still has relatives still living in the village, he could contact and ask them to obtain a copy for him.

Hi all, Of interesting, Sai Kay (Xiqi) has its own Wikipedia page; it is one of only two Taishan villages that have their own articles in the online encyclopedia. The author cites a 1958 U.S. Justice Dpt investigation which identified it as the source of the largest illegal immigration operation at the time, as well as a 1992 study of its exceptional feng shui. ( Click here for the link.) There is one Huey (Xu) zupu on FamilySearch.org which appears to be rooted in the Sui Bo (Shuibu) Township area, written in 1918; albeit, seemingly more of a jiapu (genealogical record of one particular lineage and not of an entire clan or branch). However, it does identify the generational poem: 俊頴發祥,熙隆賢相;裔濟昌大,恆茂傳芳。It seems that your grandfather was of the 昌 Chong/Cheong/Chang generation.
(you will need to register for a free account in order to scroll down on this catalogue page and access the microfilm)
(the first two tombstones are of males from Sai Kay).
Best, Jason
