For those of you who use this Village Database, you will notice the reference to map locations even though none are not included. If you find your ancestral village and wish to know the location of it , I suggest you visit this site mysite.verizon.net/vzepzaui/ and look under Maps to see some samples. If you wish to purchase a map of your particular village get in touch with Henry Tom. The map you will get is quite detailed, to scale, and includes both English (Wade-Giles) and Chinese. With this map you can "virtually walk" your way through the area of your ancestral village; it is well worth it if you intend to visit at some future date as it will save you much effort and ease your search. All you have to do is provideHenry with the name of the village and location as identified in the Village Database.

To all forum members,
This website has been updated and now includes Xinhui County (新會市) and Zhongshan County (中山市). However, not all villages are included.

Dear Colleagues, This Village Database is based upon "Index of Clan Names by Village", published by the American Consulate General, Hong Kong in the 1960's and these 4 volumes also included 4 maps. These maps are all available on my website "Tom Genealogy". To view these maps, please go to: mysite.verizon.net/vzepzaui/maps3.htmlHenry

twoupman,
woops. sorry. Found it. What threw me was, in the page, "About", there was no indication that something has been done recently. It still says, "last modified 2005 June 27 by Dominic Yu"

Ahgin,
The update is not obvious. If you do a search on Chan/Chin and scroll down the returned page - you'll see some villages for this surname in Sunwui & Chungshan.
I have pinged Dominic Yu several times without any response.

Henry,
Dominic Yu is probably quite busy -- as I too have tried to communicate with him; I have even tried the Chinese Cultural Centre in SF, but alas, but with no success. Ah well, it's is what it is.
