Barry et al,
The name of the ship, "Wee Sing" is intriguing. In Cantonese or Hosanwah, the word "satellite" ( ‰q¯ ) roughly sounds like Wee Sing. It's not quite Jupiter, but at least that gives another possible lead and roughly along the same line (of a planet / star, which of course technically it's not a star). Good luck with the hunt.
Regards, Ah Gin

Barry et al. Forgot to convert to Unicode. OK, let's try again. Satellite in Chinese is 衛星

Hi Geoff,
The Golden Dragon museum has also been recently suggested to me by a person on a genealogy mailing list. Although I have not written to them yet, it is my next port of call.
I am told on another forum that "Wee" is not a Chinese word, so it must be an English interpretation of something else.
Thanks for the link, I will look into it.
Cheers, Barry.

Hello Ah Gin,
Thank you for that interesting information. I will have a look for a ship with a name that might have a connection with the word Satellite.
I have just recently spent several hours browsing through the "Shipping Arrivals" columns in the "Port Phillip Herald Newspaper, for the last part of 1861 and all of 1862. It took awhile but there was definitely no ship of that name at that port. It is a mystery but I will keep digging away at the edges till I find an answer.
Thanks very much for your help.
Barry.

Barry, Thye other place of exploration is our site (Chinese Heritage Interest Network ) chinese-heritage.tripod.com/, in particular have a look at the "Victorian Chinese Index" , Index of Prisoners with Chinese Names, chinese-heritage.tripod.com/prisioners.htm There is a "Ah Cue" on the list, but this does not mean much or proves anything. It's a possible lead. Have fun digging and good luck. Regards, Ah Gin

Hello Barry,
If your research extends to Queensland, then let me know.
I have 6 digitals of headstones of Ah Cues that are buried in Texas Qld cemetery.
Unfortunately they don't have any chinese characters on the headstones.

Hi Barry dont know if you've found anything on Ah Cue but my grandfather was Charles Cue,born about 1873 going by his death certificate. It also stated that his father was a gardener. He lived in NE Victoria and I think he had a sister Grace. Thats all I know, if you could add anything it would be appreciated
Brian
