My grandfather is Ming-Sai Lee and my grandmother is Sai-Chui Ting. Both grandma and grandpas parents owned shipping companies. One Ting brother of my grandmas side was a General in the Army. My grandmothers father was a judge in a high court. My dad Gian-Kwei Lee was born in Ningbo, 1936. He has two sisters and during the war one sister died. In 1940 Japan bombed Ningbo with fleas infested with the plague and my dad got sick. The other sister soon got sick and was given up for adoption. 1946 they moved to Nanking. How do I begin looking for my family?

Hi Leetsuitsui253, Welcome to the Forum. It sounds like your family is from Zhejiang province. The search for your family begins with acquiring the Chinese names of your paternal and maternal grandfathers and the Chinese names of their ancestral villages. Once you have these names - it may be possible to cointact your ancestral villages to identify your village relatives and try and find and copy your family genealogy book. This book is important because it shows the exact relationships of your relatives and it also documents and preserves your ancestral lineage. If you do not have documents with this initial information, then the gravestones of your paternal and maternal grandfathers will have their Chinese names, the names of the ancestral villages, county, and province. Then take a digital photo of these gravestones and post them on the Forum. We have Chinese literate Forum members that can translate and assist. Here are directions on how to post an image on the Forum: siyigenealogy.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=comment&action=display&thread=421Good Luck ! Henry

Henry, you mention the ancestral villages. Are they actually mentioned in the chinese writings of names or are they separate? Is there any mention in the following 2 names as to Villages? Attachments:scan0040.pdf (294.7 KB)

michaela, your image does not have any geographical information.
I give you the transcription, so that you may google them if you want. (Someone answered it in the other post too.)

I'm very interested in the original post. It's like solving a puzzle, having traces of information that you don't know which will lead to something. Your family seems to have been well-to-do that google may turn something up. I'll get back to you (if you are still around, being more than 5 years.)
