Are there any Chinese people on this list who are familiar with the KNEE surname? Does it come from a particular region or province in China? Is it part of a particular group of people? How would it be written in Chinese characters? Who are the Knees or were the Knees?
Naturalisation papers for my great grandfather indicate that he came to Australia from Canton in 1850. Was he from Canton? Or was this where most people sailed out of China? The application date was 1873. He was 40 at the age of application so he would have been 17 when he came to Australia. What brought him here? Was it the goldrush? But he was listed as a shepherd? Did he come alone or with family? How did he get here? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Kind regards Shauna

Hi Shauna,
Can't recall any Chinese surname Knee. Could it be Gee (朱), meaning red? Variations of the spelling that I know of are Chu and Zhu.

No problem at all. Always a few who tend to spoil it all for everybody. This started out as an open board. Spammers forced us to change to registered users only. On future spams please post a note in the comment section of legacy1.net/forums/and I'll take care of them. Much thanks to everybody's time and efforts.
