A local genealogy group offered this following reference on how to read gravestones: archive.amol.org.au/goldenthreads/downloads/gravestones.pdfIt is from the Australian Museums and Galleries OnLine, now named CAN-Collections of Australian Network ( www.collectionsaustralia.net/) When I did a search of this SiYi forum , Helen had already posted this reference in 2008 and the thread had excellent recommendations on how to read and photograph weathered gravestones for posting and interpretation: siyigenealogy.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=names&thread=235&page=2 Reply 19 On this following thread we were discussing how to search the site in references to maps. Finding the maps tend to use the village names on headstones as a reference source. This is where Kevin (Woodson) realized that you cannot add searchable 'tags' to informative posts. siyigenealogy.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=software&action=display&thread=1072&page=1 Reply 12 However, I am reposting Helen's great hints using the wording in the subject line above so if someone searches with any of the subject's key words, they might more easily find the appropriate references. If anyone has any other hints or references for reading headstones, please post in the reply. If you have any additional 'tags', please modify the subject line of the reply to include your 'tags'. This way someone searching might find your 'tag' and therefore find this thread. I hope my posting was not confusing. Doug
