Stephen Lim, the one who has consented to serve as the Moderator for a new thread on the Lim clan under "Clan Progenitor References" Section, recently embarked on the quest to obtain the other 21 zupus for the 22 branches of Yongchun Mei Shan Lin Shi (永春美山林氏) that he did not have. For the zupu for his branch he already had a few years ago, he could trace his pedigree line all the way to Huang Di.
Mei Shan Lim (美山林) is more commonly known Shan Wei Lim (山尾林). Shan Wei Lim (山尾林) in Yongchun had since divided into two sub-sections; namely the Wai Shan Wei (外山尾) and the Nei Shan Wei (内山尾). Stephen would be from Wai Shan Wei (外山尾). To see all the 22 branches, please go to the above mentioned Section under page 2 of "Moderator" «Reply #20 April 21 at 10:39am»
Stephen went to Yongchun (永春) County in Fujian (福建) Province also as a representative of the Association of the Descendent of Mei Shan Lim (Yongchun) Malaysia (马来西亚永春美山林氏家族会) with another official (林纪信). Together with them were Stephen's father (林庶安) and one of Stephen's brothers (林纪财). Some years ago Stephen's father had previously been to his ancestral village trying to locate not only his ancestral house but also any living descendants from his ancestral house. The only information they knew was that they are related to descendants from one named "Kun (坤) who was dumb". His father's previous trip was met without any success. In this trip, the delegations officially met with committees' officials from both the Lin Surname associations, i.e. for both Wei Shan Wei (外山尾) and the Nei Shan Wei (内山尾). Stephen is very active in the Lin Associations in Malaysia. Besides the intention of sourcing the 22 zupus, Stephen's family also enquired whether anyone there would had come across of any descendant from "Kun (坤) who was dumb". No one was able to provide them with any clue.
One of the deities worship in Yongchun (永春) is Shennong (神農). Shennong (神農) is one of Three Sovereigns and considered to be the father of Chinese agriculture and medicine. This Deity (see Picture 1 below) was bought to Yongchun (永春) after the fall of the Chen (陈) Dynasty 1,400 years ago. This Deity was housed within a cave. Five years ago Mr Lim Kee Ping (林纪炳) from Taiwan, also descended from Wai Shan Wei (外山尾), was in Yongchan (永春). While he was there then, he dreamt of Shennong (神農) telling him he did not a place to stay. This Lim Kee Ping (he was 81 years then) took it upon himself to go all over the world amongst the Lim descended Yongchun (永春) to raise fund to build a temple to house the Deity Shennong (神農). He raised over 400,000 RMB and the temple was recently completed (Picture 2).
Stephen recent visit to Yongchun happened to coincide with 1,400 Anniversary of the arrival of Shennong (神農) to Yongchun (永春). A week long ceremony (Picture 3) was conducted in this new temple and the 86 years old Mr Lim Kee Ping was there as well. Stephen with the other Malaysian delegation (Picture 4) also joint in for one of the days.
On the next day Stephen and his family also visited the original cave temple where Shennong (神農) was located (Picture 6). At this temple they prayed for divine intervention to enable them in locating their ancestral house. He then use the Divination Sticks (See Picture 6 for the two jugs of Divination Sticks) at the temple to see whether their prayer would be answered. The stick that dropped out carried the message "your wish would soon be answered".
On the journey back from the Shennong (神農) Cave Temple to their hotel, Stephen's brother received a call in his hand phone from a complete stranger claiming this and that. Their first reaction was that the stranger must be a conman out to make a quick buck. Their asked the stranger to wait for them at their hotel to transact whatever business the stranger wanted. When they arrived at the hotel, they were shocked a police officer waiting for them. They were full of apprehension as to what offence they had committed during their stay so far.
What it turned out was that the police officer is one of the grandsons of "Kun (坤) who was dumb". This was established after checking his identity and the zupu of their branch of Lim. The police officer is in fact the third cousin of Stephen Lim. He had heard the talk circulating that a family from Malaysia is looking for descendants of "Kun (坤) who was dumb". The police officer subsequently brought them to Stephen ancestral house and to meet with other descendants still staying in their ancestral house. Picture 7 gives that part of Stephen's Family showing the relationship with other descendants as well as some relevant pictures at the ancestral house
