I'm from Malaysia. As far I know..
- According to a family photo: My grandfather came to Malaysia with his parents. Settled in Melaka. Photo display my grandfather's parent and my grandfather around age 10.
- Cantonese speaking.
- Died in 1994 or 1995 age around 55 or 56. Estimate borned in 193x or 194x. My father born in Malaysia in 1961.
- Name: 陳國“圈” Im only sure of the first 2 characters. Pronounced "Chan Kwok Hue'n"
- I only heard from my father about this "Panyu, Guangdong". I do not have any idea which village.
Im really puzzled and hopefully I could get some idea or any info i can get. Because i have no idea where should I start.

Hi Dancemacabre, Welcome to the Forum. I suggest locating your ancestral village in Panyu. Then the village chief of your ancestral village could be contacted and asked to identify village relatives and also to acquire a village genealogy book. This book would not only document the lineages of your male ancestors, but, it would provide a reference and confirmation of people claiming to be related to you. Are there Chinese characters inscribed on the gravestones of your grandfather and great grandfather? If so, take digital photos and post them here and we can try to locate your ancestral village on a map. Reading this thread will enable you to post the photos on the Forum: siyigenealogy.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=comment&action=display&thread=421Regards, Henry

Hi Dancemacabre, If you are able to acquire a copy of your Chan genealogy book - it may only trace your lineage back to the village founder or just to the first Chan ancestor to come to Guangdong province. We are most fortunate to have Philip Tan, a Chan clansman who has done a lot of Chan genealogy work and has so generously helped other Chan researchers and also posted some of these lineages here on the Forum: siyigenealogy.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=clanprogenitor&action=display&thread=845Philip has posted the Chan lineage from Chen Hui, the first Chan ancestor to come to Guangdong province all the way back to HuangDi, the Yellow Emperor ( 2697 BC - 2597 BC ) - if you link all these Chan lineages - including yours, we are probably talking about 140 plus generations spanning 4,700 years. Philip lives in Kuala Lumpur and is always interested in meeting Chan genealogy researchers. If you would like to meet Philip, please send me your personal email address to "Tomclan@Gmail.com" and I will be happy to forward your email address to Philip. Regards, Henry
