Hello everyone, My wife and I would like to make her familly tree. Her grand-father is chinese and we would like to find his ancestors but we don't know how to make these researches. Her grand-father left china to Mauritius in 1932, he was 20 years old. We know he came from Mui Yuen, Guangzhu, Kwangtung. I attach his identity card where there is his real chinese name. Also he might be born in 1912 the june 23rd. If anyone could help us, we will be very grateful. Thank you in advance. Attachments:

Hi Pdelsart407,
Welcome to the Forum,
In order to research further, you will need the Chinese characters of the ancestral village of your wife's grandfather and if possible, the Chinese characters for the nearest larger town to this ancestral village.
If the gravestone of this person has Chinese characters inscribed on it, the needed information is there. If so, please take a photo and post it on the Forum.
Then we will try to locate the ancestral village. Once, you have that - the village chief of the ancestral village can be contacted and queried about any relatives still living in or near the village and whether a village genealogy book is available. This genealogy book is the prime source to document the family lineage and it also identifies and verifies the relationships of relatives.

Hi Pierre,
Perhaps your father-in-law knows the Chinese names of the ancestral village and its nearest market town.

Pierre,
As I cannot read or write Chinese, one of the Forum members that can will have to take a look at the Chinese characters in item 4 - this might be the name of the village or place within Kwangtung province.
I am only a geographer - I can recognize the Chinese characters for places, so my expertise is limited.

The second document says he was from Shunde, a county south of Guangzhou. This is a long way from Muizhou.

Shunde is about 10 miles south of Guangzhou ( Canton ). The grandfather may have been living in the Shunde area prior to leaving for Mauritius .
Hence, the digital photo of the gravestone with inscribed Chinese characters may provide the name of the ancestral village.
Perhaps the family may have the address of the ancestral village from letters or other documents.

My daughter's boyfriend is from Mauritius. When I show him the post, he immediately recognises the name though he can't read Chinese. He says the Chinese community is small and they know each other. He is quite sure his parents would know the person.
Take heart, with more clues, our forum experts can usually perform miracles.
