To correctly view Chinese characters please select < View>, < Encoding>, and < Unicode> option from the browser menu. ¿Can someone help me translate this tombstone? I am looking for another given Chinese name for my relative. I have 楊参雲 as the main name on the tombstone. ¿Is the first given character (middle character) correct or can someone provide a better character? ¿Is there another given name on the tombstone? Sincerely, Doug

Thanks tyuti1668, I am looking for another given name romanized as 'Jung'. The handwriting-penmanship is too difficult for my lack of Chinese language skill. I get these two possibilities from the 6 images of signatures below: 琤 瑋 The first character seems to be pronounced correctly and is displayed differently and a tad closer in strokes when plugged into my favorite Chinese dictionary site: www.mdbg.net/chindict/chindict.php?page=chardict&cdcanoce=1&cdqchi=%E7%90%A4+%E7%91%8B¿Can you or anyone help me choose the correct character, if any of the above characters are even correct? Sincerely, Doug To correctly view Chinese characters please select < View>, < Encoding>, and < Unicode> option from the browser menu.

THANK YOU tyuti1668. You are correct that I am researching the Yang 楊 from SanMingTing 申明亭 I will have a relative translate the You Tube narrative. I am a moderator to this forum and I am supposed to know what I am doing. Let me explain and hopefully provide lessons to those lurkers new to the forum and new to Chinese genealogy research. I have been searching for my grandparents and wife’s grandparents jiapu. Prior, I did due-dilligence and found my paternal grandfather’s jiapu: How I recently obtained my jiapu<=click by researching the given names of relatives born in China. I then hired Henry's nephew Tan ShiCheng to find the jiapu in China. That was a preceded by years of work gathering information and archiving the data for later use. Being successful, I wanted to expand my collection to my own and my wife’s grandparents jiapu's. This is different from classical Chinese genealogy where only the paternal single lineage is emphasized. See Kerry’s post: [a href=" siyigenealogy.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=software&thread=1139&page=2#7547"] siyigenealogy.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=software&thread=1139&page=2#7547[/a] . I subsequently hired Tan ShiCheng to search for my two maternal grandparent’s jiapu. He was able to find only one. I will write about that experience in a later post. With the failed second jiapu search, I went back-to-basics and looked at the (incorrect) characters I sent Tan Shicheng. Hence the adage: garbage in, garbage out. Out of my family tree software, I took a shortcut and merely < select>< copy>< pasted> the Chinese characters I sent. I did not take the time to double check the accuracy. Indeed, I had ignored notes written years ago that there might be inaccurate given names. My laziness and oversight cost me money and might have cost me an opportunity to find a jiapu. Going back-to-basics meant getting the help from this forum by posting the images of my ancestor’s tombstones and images of US National Archive paperwork with signatures and other limited sources of given names. Especially it involved getting the advice from Chinese literate forum members like tyuti1668. My ‘bad’ was ignoring the steps of rechecking my data and reconciling my notes. All genealogists find that a small bit of information is like a key to opening doors and removing obstacles to your research. This forum is the gathering place where other members can help find those ‘keys’ My ‘good’ was that I took the time to archive and catalogue my information over the years, especially using a genealogy software product. I did not need to re-gather the raw data. The last thing you want to do is to store your information like this: Doug To correctly view Chinese characters please select < View>, < Encoding>, and < Unicode> option from the browser menu.
